I'm keen to hear some war stories and see some results.

So it proved, with a fairly cruisy first lap, a second with more attacks, all to no avail, and me feeling quite comfy until I rounded a corner half way through the third of four laps.
I heard a tinkling sound from somehow down the bottom rear of the bike. It sounded like a small metal part had fallen off and got caught by the wheel. I was just wondering how that could happen when, "bang," there was the sound of a tyre popping. Wishfully thinking it might be someone else, I rapidly realised that wasn't so, as my back wheel began to squirm. I pulled over, waited for a while, and got a ride back with the sag wagon.
I'd fallen victim to a nail. I found out later that I wasn't the only one, and one of the officials told me that there were nails along a large part of the course, despite it having been swept the day before. It can only have been deliberate.
A real shame for the riders affected and for the local club and honest townspeople, who have mostly been very welcoming.
The other noteworthy things from today were three crashes in different grades in the run up to the finish, at least one requiring an ambulance, and the NSW State M5 men's championship being won by a rider from a Victorian club.

That's a real shame. Many locals worked very hard for that event.MREJ wrote:I'd fallen victim to a nail. Large crash in the m1-2 with 500m or so to go, the winner was from Victoria also.

AWCC, strawburg"s
Saw the brown snake he was in good nic too, about 1.5mtrs long and hike'in to get out of our way lol!
Course was not what I expected either but race was preety quiet after break went, we all rolled a few turn's at one point and brought back over 1:30 then we shut down so that was that, bunch gallop it was to be.
I ball's up the final sprint, was second wheel with ~400m to go not ideal IMO and thought early attacks would come and they didn't, left it too late to let the wheel in front go and get a run at him when about 6 flyers let loose in last 150m and too slow and too late to grab another wheel so sat up and rolled accross line with the bunch.
Kiss taking 3rd and the win in the crit on Sun and winning a cannondale in the luckey draw I heard so he must have had an angel on his shoulder all weekend.
He's not down to start for Nats so will be happy with his weekend I'm sure.
Heard the crash behind, not good, sounded like carbon on asphelt that's why I was so far up the front.. dog's breakfast at the back with less than a km to go, people get carried away at titles races and take silly risks when they suddenly realise it's now or never.
I'll be at Nats too but course will destroy me. Climber/TTer maybee rouler will be in best position, doing crit Fri and will hang round for RR but I know full well I won't be able to carry a tune on this course,
just there to make up numbers and enjoy good company and more great racing like this w/end!
Griffith should be proud of their effort's, great event and I'm sure NSW cycling would agree as they ran it like troopers really well oranised.
Brian.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure ft_critical won m4's. Never met him in person so I could be way off. Won by almost 1 minute!toolonglegs wrote:Do tell.Strawburger wrote:A Bna member picked up a gold medal in the ITT today. Well done!

In the RR, I had a terrible position with 3km to go, stuck near the back. Got caught up behind the crash, watched it all unfold. Gladly the sliding went the other way to the way I swerved! Got back on just in time for the sprint to start. Happy to finish unscathed though!
Great well run event, Griffith should be proud.
Come say g'day at the nationals. I'll be the only DHBC rider there in M2.

For sure, the more people you know in a race the more relaxed you feel.

Sorry BNA'ers that was a clubmate not me. I attacked at 5km to go in the road race - hopefully/hopelessly? - got caught on the hill, could only make 9th across the line in the sprint. 9th being the same as last year. Although, if you take out the Victorians, it was 4th
I looked out for the DBHC table at the dinner but missed it. I think MJRE came and chatted to us (NSCC) on Sunday Morning over coffee.
I might get a race report out... some time.
Gossip - next year Nats at Griffith, if so NSW at Orange. If not Tweed Heads and Griffith again. All unsubstantiated rumour. It was a fantastic event, well organised etc.
