I read that those Fibreglass reinforced nylon soles go soft over time. Does Carbon sole shoes go soft over time too?
And how hardy are these carbon shoes?

I've biffed SIDI carbon shoes because the uppers were completely worn out and the soles were still as stiff as the day I brought them

I've had nylon soles go soft but haven't noticed it with carbon fibre.

There are different versions of carbon soles, carbon reinforced nylon, and carbon fibre composite.

Iirc from my injection molding days, nylon won't go soft, but it will absorb moisture and become more flexible, as strange as it sounds, putting them in an oven at around 60 degree may dry them out and make them less flexible

I can also echo these comments. my sidi dragons are now 4 years old and due replacement because the uppers are getting too soft. the sole is still very stiff.mikesbytes wrote:I've biffed SIDI carbon shoes because the uppers were completely worn out and the soles were still as stiff as the day I brought them

My Shimano Custom Fit's lasted 5 to 6 years ... 50,000 plus kms. The carbon sole did die in the end ... the heal cracked up. They are still rideable and super comfy so I keep them as a back up. Luckily as the Mavic shoes I brought only lasted 2 to 3 months before I wore a hole through the front under the toes, only on the foot that I push off from when stopped. But they did recognize it as a warranty issue and replaced it with a newer model that had a protection pad under the tip ... 15,000 km later and they are still going strong.

The ones I biffed were sidi dragon II's. I've also got sidi ergo II's which are the same vintage as the dragon II's. They haven't had the same punishment and they are as good as the day I purchased themmarch83 wrote:I can also echo these comments. my sidi dragons are now 4 years old and due replacement because the uppers are getting too soft. the sole is still very stiff.mikesbytes wrote:I've biffed SIDI carbon shoes because the uppers were completely worn out and the soles were still as stiff as the day I brought them
