Mike did well in Div 3 finishing in 19th place with a time of 2:37:11 for 80km.
I went better on Sunday than I did on Saturday (which isn't too hard to do). In Div 4 I managed to snag 10th place with a time of 1:17:50 for 43km.
Martin Dalitz from Penrith beat me in a sprint for 9th place by 0.3 of a second. Damn.
Good news is I can only improve next year. Training starts on Monday well, maybe in a couple of months
Kev.

I'm happy with my results;
Saturday summary - Div 8 handicap
- Division 8: Ended up being down to 3 riders in my group off the front, later caught by 3 others, later again some more when the following group caught. Ended up 6th in my bunch
- Blew at 70k and did 15 of the last 20 solo, the other 5 being on the back of scratch. Lost 5 minutes in those last 20k
- 45th on handicap time
- 94th on scratch time
Compared to 2010, where I was a division ahead (more handicap) and finished 101st on handicap
Sunday summary - Div 3 scratch
I measured it as 83k, I guess that's 40k a lap + 3k to get there from the start line.
- Lap 1 A huge solo effort to ride back onto a bunch. The bunch put in a big effort to get back on. Instrumental in that was a dubbo guy and myself who worked big time over that super long 2% ? hill
- Lap 2 Dropped just past the start finish line, looking at the results, the bunch I was in that caught their bunch was all dropped and most dropped out of the race
- lost 12 minutes riding 40k solo in even worst wind than the first lap.
- 3rd of the riders who were from Div8
- 19th overall, can't complain at that

Good to see you Mike and nice to ride with you for 90km Kev.
My race was pretty much the same as Kev, except Kev blew a few more times than me, but always came back. I blew just once but in a big way somewhere about the 70km mark and struggled to the top of the climb at 80km. I rejoined with Kev at the top and sucked wheel like there was no tomorrow until the finish. My first road race so didnt really know what to do, but was a fun experience. Hopefully can improve next year.
Big thanks to Kev as i sucked his wheel ALOT on the flats and downhill sections. Your a machine in that terrain, at times i was pushing 54/12 and struggling to hold on. Good fun though

Well RAW continues to be my track training. Despite Mudgee been backed up with 9 spin classes, I still seem to be mid field in Div2, except for the really short stuff, which I suck at regardless of grade. I'm pleased with my performance.
Warmup race (and wheel race qualification)
7th. Made a tactical error not spotting the split occurring as rolled back. If I had been on the ball I would of being on the wheels of the 4 riders who got away, instead I had to ride around other riders and across the gap.
3 lap thingie
Last. Where I normally come in the short stuff. My heat seemed to go all the way, probably thanks to Scott, where other heats held back and sprinted. This time I wasn't dropped on the initial acceleration at least
Point a lap
Pace was hot, I sat in but didn't challenge at any point.
Combined - Middle Group
5th. Decided to go out with the Div 3 riders for a comparison. There was 26 riders and Crafty decided who to kick out. Scott had turned up with a T-shirt over his gear [in the hope that he wasn't spotted] but someone dobbed him in, so he was out. I tried to look inconspicuous and YES... Crafty kicked out someone else. I was in
Pace was pretty ordinary until the Bankstown kids got on the front and it upped a little. I got on the front and accelerated. when I rolled, I could Anthony was struggling in 3rd wheel, so I rolled in to fill the gap in front of him. One lap later I was on the front again and accelerated and rolled.
This is where it went wrong, I ended up boxed in when that young guy made his move, I couldn't respond until the other riders cleared out the way. I kicked and took 3 riders with me. James moved out of the way, went past and rolled to the back of the 3 riders. I could see that the other 3 riders didn't have the ponies to bridge the size able gap, so I rolled around at the back and then dropped off, looked behind me and there no one for at least half a lap. Man that new kid had killed the field, wish I was with him when he originally kicked, so I could of sucked his wheel. Also confirmed that even with rooted legs, Div2 is where it is for me.

Had a smash fess at my High Performance spin class (10th for the week) in the morning which resulted in seriously rooted legs, but the gear restricted Ominum was on, so it was full steam ahead. Arrived late at the track and hadn't changed my gearing, but the other riders were in the same situation, all changing their chain rings. One of the riders (Tim) decided that rather than change his gears, he'd ride some crap steel bike out of the shed. After the event he checked his gearing and it was 82.9", over the 81" limit LOL.
Flying 200
14.3 5th equal. Only 0.2 slower than last time I did it on 96". Qualified me for A grade, for the other races
Scratch race - 15 laps
3rd (7 riders) Field broke apart and I ended up in no mans land
Missing Out - every 2nd lap
1st (7 riders) With 3 riders left I was pinned in, but the outside rider didn't ride close enough to me and I was able to squeeze thru to avoid elimination. That left 2 of us and I out sprinted to win. Comment later was how did you stand up and sprint on the back straight? Guess I'm more adapted to high cadence than the other riders.
Wheel Race - 8 laps
Last (7 riders) I was on Scratch, but there were 2 riders that were 20mtrs behind me. I hadn't recovered from the Missing Out and failed to get the wheel of the 2 riders behind me when they went past.
Madison - 4 laps - race 1
3rd (5 riders). James attacked with 1 3/4 laps to go. Tim and Chris got away from me
Madison - 4 laps - race 2
3rd (4 riders). This time I attacked at the top of the banking and simultaneous Tim attacked at the bottom. I had the wheel of Chris who had Tim's wheel but I wasn't able to go around them.

NSW Individual Time Trail (ITT) Championships
Third – Bronze Medal
This was a bit of surprise, as I’m not a time trailist and I don’t own a time trail bike. After the event, I went back to my car and changed out of my skin suit and then I went to find out what my time was and I got a shock, I had come third. Had to high tail it back to my car and get changed again for the podium photo LOL.
What I did right: My delivery was fairly smooth, I delivered similar performance right thru the race
What I did wrong;
1. Forgot my time trial over socks
2. Missed a turn off had to chuck a u’ie and come back
3. Rode a bit conservatively
(click for biggie)
I don’t think that my mistakes made a difference in placing, I was solidly beaten for 2nd and I solidly beat 4th

Hey Ross, the results in MMAS4 were pretty close, heaps of riders, your only 1m34s off the bronze but yet that puts you in 12th
Sogood, seeing the figures shows a bit more gap each side of me. I'm only 1m40s behind the winner, can't complain about that
Looking at the 2010 results =:> http://www.nsw.cycling.org.au/cy_nsw/ra ... tm#Results I was 2 seconds behind Geoffrey Baxter, who came 10th that year and this year he came 3rd and I was 1m20s behind him. Can't compare the times or average speeds as it was a different course

Sydney road titles - Penrith Lakes
I tried something a bit different, I did my high performance spin class in the morning, knowing that I was racing at 12.55pm.
I was involved in 3 different break away attempts in the first 2 laps and then early into lap 3, I got away with a penrith rider and a paramatta rider in my 4th attempt. I looked behind and we were away. We worked well together and got the break out to about 1/2k. The mix of clubs in the break meant there were a reasonable number of riders who weren't going to work. On laps 5 & 6 they reduced our gap and it was starting to look like they were going to get us. But we stayed away and even when we crossed the line on the last lap (8), we still stood a chance of taking it out, but they caught us with 2k to go. I was spent and didn't contest the sprint.
The breakaway

Good to catch up Mike. I've not been back the last couple of weeks, what with staying up too late to watch the tour and feeling totally stuffed on Friday this week due to work. Maybe next week I'll make it again.mikesbytes wrote:Steve Cassidy and yours truly at Dunc Grey a couple of weeks ago

Result - about 8th - 10th, though I crashed
Pace was pretty ordinary with the odd half baked attack, I got myself ready to launch into any real break but it didn't happen, rode a couple of them down. On the last lap I had Tim Liewellyn's wheel, who is a track sprinter, we went into the sprint and Tim pulled his foot, which was my race over. We just lightly sprinted to keep pace with the riders around us, the podium was taken and just before this line, this turkey squeezes between me and the rail, brushing me as he does it and cuts across me taking out my front wheel with is derailleur. I think that my bike came about 8th and my body came about 10th. My speedo says I crashed at 58.5kph. I've lost a lot of skin, but the xrays today show no broken bones. I'm off the bike for 1 - 2 weeks, while the injuries heal. Bike didn't suffer much damage. Skin suit destroyed, leg warmers, arms warmers, over shoes and gloves all gone. And I can't do my spin classes, so I'm loosing some income.
