Well done on your placing, I've only managed a 2nd place in d Grade, so far nothing in C.

you did well, you were on my radar as one to look out for :) .
when i came to the straight i thought we were no chance of catching you and the other guy but i put my head down and just went for it.

I chased a solo breakway after the prime 15 minutes in. No one else wanted to come. So there I was about 80m in front, with break man giving up the ghost.
I felt ok, so kept going. Built up a 400 metre lead, and had to hold out for 30 minutes. Lead got eroded to about 200 metres 7 minutes from the finish, but lack of cooperation in the chasing pack put it in the bag for me. My average speed 38kph.
great work, now onto B grade! :P

raced wyong last friday. B grade this time. There was an attack within the first 5 or 10 minutes of the race, i saw it happen, hanging around the back of the drawn out pack. I thought it was still too far to go so i didn't respond. A couple of guys bridged the gap in the next ensuing minutes...and we never saw most of them again. The second group never really let down the pace but obviously we were not fast enough. Finished in the group.

avg 39km/h

I also raced Beaumond road this sunday for the first time. Decided to go in C. Good fast race with plenty of attacks, and especially one NSCC rider attacked multiple times. In the end the group broke apart and 8 of us went into the last 2 laps. I did not contest the sprint and i think a Manly rider took the win. Again good racing.

I've been thinking about having a crack at this one. I live 2km away from Beauie so I really don't have an excuse  What was your avg speed in this race?

36.7 km/h in c - one of my mates said that B was 39km/h.
The challenge of this course is the that it is in the shape of a hot dog, and you're going from 40km/h to 10km/h back to 40km/h everytime you take the turn. Especially if you're hanging at the back of the group, the dreaded jojo really comes into play as everyone sprints out of the corner and attacks... every time. Really good fun though.

thanks. Shows the differences in the courses - the hair pin turns at Beauie seem to drop the average speed a bit.

After the debacle that was Vets B the other week (really crap handling skills being displayed, at one point the guy 30cm ahead of me was sideways with a locked rear wheel  )... I decided to move to a smaller group - A grade. I knew it could be interesting when I was sitting on the start line, and half the guys were lined up ready in the big chain ring. But, most of these guys had done Fitz's on the weekend as well, and were complaining about tired legs. All I did was 2000m of climbing on Sat and another 440m on Mon, so I was comparatively "fresh".

It started off fairly sedately, but the speed through the tight corners was a lot higher than I'm used to, and my lines were crap. These guys also push the boundaries on pedal strike as well, so I got gapped on the second lap and had to work my arse off getting back on. The surges, when they came, weren't hard to hang on to... I'm really seeing the benefits of weight loss here. I had a lap on the front but went too slow & wide into a corner and had two guys dive down the inside of me. A lap later, a guy I know well started hammering off for an attack, so I jumped on his wheel and we stayed away for two laps. Then, as they all passed, the rider who eventually won was looking at the pack to his left.... drifted over right to the edge of the track... and as that's where I was at the time, I ended up going off the track into the dirt to avoid his wheel. Luckily, there were no attacks at that point, so I was able to get back onto the track and catch them after a third of the lap, passing the 2-laps-to-go board as I rejoined. The speed picked up a lot on the last lap, but the guys around me sat up as the sprint started, so I did as well... rolling over the line third last.

21.9km in 32:02, 319W avg, 353W NP, 41.0kph, 159 bpm average. 31% of the ride time >= 430W. Seasonal PB power output for everything between six and eleven minutes.

And, according to one of the guys I know... last week the average was 44.2kph. I'll see how I handle that when the time comes. It didn't feel too hard this week, so hopefully I'll be able to hang on when they get their legs back.
I ride, therefore I am. But don't ride into harm's way.

Second ride in A grade, unfortunately a points crit, so intermediate sprints along the way. PT head unit turned itself off on the line, and didn't realise for three laps, so I only have the garmin for the full record, damn it! The first sprint was on the third lap, the two riders who won the sprint rode off into the distance and no-one chased, so knowing that I didn't have any points chances I went to the front and spent two laps pulling them back... I had brought about 2/3'rds of the gap back when another sprint was called and everyone surged past me, and I ended up off the back and spent another lap getting back on. After that, I pretty much stuck to the back, except I kept getting gapped coming out of collarbone - I lose too much speed through that corner and the climb after that point means I have to hammer it to get the speed back up and get back on. In the end, I was just happy to stick with the surges and still be there for the finish. The guy I went on the break with last week and another rider just rode off into the distance, and no-one was prepared to chase. Go figure...

41.3kph average, 23.15k in 33:37. For the bits I recorded, 338W Avg, 359W Np, with 34% above 432W (Z6+).

And we lapped B grade.

Must... lose... more... weight... Current BMI : 25.5.

First attempt at Heffron.

B Grade - Absolute gutterfest, Wind 70km/hr gusts - Avg - 39.8 - 335w

About 6 in B grade left, lap and a half to go A grade come through rider in front drops wheel up straight and I got pumped trying to get back on.
Mind you I didn't realize he'd dropped the wheel till it was too late, I was buried in the red concentrating on his wheel day dreaming of a heart rate that didn't emulate a Cricket score.

What a great atmosphere.
I found considering course and conditions there was such great respect between riders. Just loved it, best $20 I've spent for ages.

Uriarra Road Time Trial, 19.72km in 30:42, 38.5kph average, 372W average, 374W NP. Second fastest time, but the winner was the proverbial mile ahead, faster than me by 1:44 (but with a bike with all the fruit - he's part owner of a bike shop). It's a hilly'ish course (210m of climbing) that doesn't favour anyone, but I threw my old pacing model out the window and just hammered it up the hills , tried to hold threshold on the flat and recover down the hills. FTP estimate now 365W, and the legs are sore.

Yeah bike is in one piece... To be honest that surprised me as at the bottom of a descent I tried to take a line a bit faster than normal to get a good run into a flat fast section... But front tyre couldn't take it and I slide full speed in a jagged boulder. As I was braking as hard as I could I crushed my lh forefinger pretty well... Loads of blood.
But as it was only my 3rd lap and my wheel still spun I carried on.
All went well and once my finger went numb it didn't bother me too much... The blood made braking a bit slippery on the lever ;-) .
Fantastic course... Even after the constant rain the last 24 hours. Very technical especially later in the race when it got chopped out. Huge amounts of climbing though which wasn't great for me... Ended up running a lot of sections which I am crap at.
Got lapped by the winner only... Didnt mind too much as I was suffering at the end... And this guy is a real cx specialist.
Not sure of my results yet... Somewhere just inside the top 20 (50 starters) I hope... The guys I was riding with last year I was lapping myself so I have certainly improved a lot... But I need a flatter course to shine ;-)
Hopefully going to pull up alright for another one today... At the moment I am pretty tired!.
