I am aiming for a minimim of 50km a month while I get my fitness up.
Do you guys take any k's off for coasting. Where I ride there are a few hills so at the end of the ride I take 500m-1km off for the coasting I did.
Should I not worry about the coasting?

OK, I've added myself, but for the life of me, I can't see how to put the k's into the ride.

Now I'm using the term "leisurely ride" loosly, very loosly. Although we didn't get rained on, we had a nice little 37kph SSE wind with gusts up to 56kph, and at one point we were getting blown around so much we had to abandon the road and hit the footpath.
But wind aside, it was a good little ride, and was great to finally get back on the road after the horrendous conditions we've been having

Grumps, leave the k's on mate...riding downhill is the reward for working to get up itGrumps wrote:Another 8 for me today

You might want to try pedalling down the hills instead of coasting. You don't have to pedal hard and like a bat out of hell, but, there are a number of benefits in keeping your legs turning on the downhill runs.
By keeping your legs turning, it actually helps your legs recover from the climb a bit quicker, and if they are turning, then your exercising, so it will help get you fitter a tad faster Just select an appropriate gear that will keep your legs turning comfortably, but give you a bit of a breather at the same time.
Good onya Grumps, keep it up mate!

Started an effort about 1/3rd of the way in but just pushed a difficult (for me) pace instead of going all out. I was waiting for someone to pass me so I could grab onto their wheel but I ended up riding at the front all the way to the top with two others just behind "encouraging" me!
Climb 364m in 7.1km, time 23:17, Average VAM 938, Average speed 18.3km/h (climb only)
Here's a profile with speed shown. The bumps shown (and the total climb figure) in the elevation aren't real, they're just because it's a valley with tall trees and cliffs on the sides and GPS loses altitude accuracy in there.

Velocity Ascended, Metres per hourinaminit wrote:Nice ride there Benj. BTW what is "Average VAM"?
It's a nice thing to measure on climbs because it doesn't change much due to gradient - i.e, if you are on a steeper gradient your average speed will be slower but your VAM will probably not change so much.

I'm now in the habit of commuting more often than getting the train, so combined with my weekend rides I'm hoping for a big year km-wise.

Nah that was for the 1st and 2nd. Sod doing 270 in one go, I really enjoy doing 100 but after 110 my interest drops fast, it just takes up too much time. I usually average around 300 a week.toolonglegs wrote: You are trying hard to stay there...well done.Do you normally do that much riding?.Hard to compete with a rider doing 270km per day

The clubs holding a respectable 3rd!
