I did the "official" 400m in 7km climb in about 23 minutes. I was keeping up in a group of four for most of it, after dropping two off in the first couple of km, until I tried making an attack at about 2/3rds of the way up. I gained about 100m out the front of the rest, but unfortunately the slight downhill I thought I was near was in fact miles away and I just couldn't keep the pace after that. Arrived at the top fourth out of six, about 30 seconds after the next fastest.
I know I can't sustain my attacks on hills but I can't help trying!
But it still only counts as 50km! So unfair!

No, but one thing I noticed after todays ride was the lack of acid buildup and the extremely quick recovery after the century at an average of 32.5 kph. My legs haven't changed much at all, maybe just a little more muscle defined but definitely not bigger, I'm still a stick thin rider, but now I'm riding with an average cadence pushing 100 (it was 99 today for the 3 and a bit hours).toolonglegs wrote:geez...a 30km av 200km...you must be getting some thighs on you by now!
I've already faced the facts that I'll never be a sprinter

He 'aint kidding there.KillerHeadWind wrote:I'm still a stick thin rider.....
I'd say "He'll blow away in a stiff breeze" but there isn't enough surface area for the wind to act upon.
Or there is the old " he has to run around in the shower just to get wet".

Wow that is impressive. I had a look at mine and it was a paltry 48 hours. But I did manage to break through the 1500km for the month, which was the goal.needsapush wrote:Just checked my journal and for December I'm on 57 hours of riding

Not a big one planned but I do plan to ride to the city since I've not done it before and drop in to the parents to see the aftermath of tonight's celebrations.KillerHeadWind wrote:Who is going for a big ride to try and lead the bike journal tomorrow?

I think I ride too much and too slowly. 1010 km for December and 38.5 hours. Actually that's not too bad but those are bike computer hours. Probably add another 10 hrs for rest breaks, red lights, etc.KillerHeadWind wrote:Wow that is impressive. I had a look at mine and it was a paltry 48 hours. Great distance for the time.KillerHeadWind wrote: Wow that is impressive. I had a look at mine and it was a paltry 48 hours. But I did manage to break through the 1500km for the month, which was the goal.
My hours gave me just over 1400kms. I commute on an old MTB which I avg 20-23. Round the MTB track a 3 hour ride gives me 50 kms and thats good going!
Will get a short ride in tomorrow morning hopefully but under orders to be back early. Heading out for a day on the beach

More importantly, how many days did you have off?needsapush wrote:Great distance for the time.KillerHeadWind wrote: Wow that is impressive. I had a look at mine and it was a paltry 48 hours. But I did manage to break through the 1500km for the month, which was the goal.

Ultimately it doesn't matter if it's too slow, as long as you enjoy it. My favourite rides are my slower recovery rides where I soak it all in and don't care how fast I am going. I am one who hates to stop (the only time I stop are at red lights or fixing punctures), I have to keep a rhythm otherwise it takes a long time for me to regain it.Boognoss wrote:I think I ride too much and too slowly. 1010 km for December and 38.5 hours. I'm loving riding but I do want to go a bit faster.KillerHeadWind wrote:

I was cruising along the flats coming in to Windsor yesterday at a respectable 30kph and was overtaken casually by a drop bar roadie that must have been cruising at about 35. Flat bar + wide chest = slower than I'd like .

That's the end of my long rides for the next couple of days due me going back to work tomorrow. Ah well it'll be good to give my body a break after doing more than 500km in past 6 days, which ultimately should have been more except for a slashed tyre that kept one ride much shorter than planned.

Don't expect great things from me since I am only starting out but I will endeavour to do the best I currently can.
Started the New Year off with an 8km ride, which is the max I will be doing for a while so I don't have a coronary
Biggest hurdle for me will be consistency of rides due to family or weather.
Oh, for 2007 I did a total of 38km! (I only started riding just before Xmas )
