Like a lot of you out there I won't let "the pecious" sit out in the shed with the spiders and flies gathering dust in their off days. The missus was starting to give me foul looks with the amount of space the MTB and Roadie was starting to take up in the study. Then I found a free standing gravity bike rack on the Internet made by some US company who also does really swish car racks. After a bit of hunting on ebay and what not I found a similar model similar to it for about a quarter of the price (about $45 incuding delivery). It looks like the picture below and handles my Jamis MTB and Learsport Roadie with no sweat. I even put a couple of extra hooks on it for my helmet and stuff. The only criticism I would has is that the "hooks" didn't really have that much protection for the frames of the bikes so i just got some adhesive backed rubber and lined them and its all sweet. the frame itself is completelty free standing so you could put it in the middle of the room if you wanted to make some modern art or something, but it sits up against the wall nicely. The missus is happy that she can get to the bookself again and I am happy that "the precious" is not out in the shed.

looks good mate......my "precious" hangs on the loungeroom wall with a bracket I bought from bunnings.

Ur freestanding hanger would be handy though....saves drilling walls, and u can move it around easily.......

But how can wimmens truly appreciate a bike if they aren't falling over one all the time?

I have seen that piccy before and considered something similar but the only problem for me would have been that the bikes "stick out" too far and the orange Trek in your picture would be right where the bookcase is that the wife likes to visit.

I gave her a hand me down old MTB I had laying around. I decked it out with lights, slicks, padded seat and panniers so she can pop to the library and save the planet all at the same time. She loves it. It lives in a different part of the house where she can move it to wherever she wants whenever she trips over it (it gets moved a lot)

Looks great. Forgive my knit picking but is the picture on the left the same brand as the one on the right. The hooks on the one on the left seem to have better top tube coverage than the one on the right. The one on the right seems to be only just holding on and more vulnerable to being knocked off the stand easily.

I do think it looks great though and would love a couple of them, especially at that price.

Ahh, you should consider the Topeak version then. It uses the same principle but has a telescopic central pole that goes from floor to ceiling and can be used out from a wall to allow "double" sided brackets and hold up to 4 bikes.

I'm thinking of one for my garage but only as a 2 bike single sided version, I already have 2 (his and hers) wall mounted bikes but have run out of wall space so this will go in front of some shelving I don't need to get access to too often.[/quote]

Hey, that's neat. I think I will invest.
Should help reduce the number of times that I need to move bikes to get to tools etc.

I've sometimes considered getting a 'her indoors' so that I've got someone who'll complain about the bikes littering the dining room. But then I notice the tears dripping from the chainrings and reassure my darlings that such a thing would never happen

Actually, if I owned this place instead of paying a landlord to allow me to live in it, I could stand her on her rear wheel and hold her in place by jamming the chainring into the ceiling

One day, I'll have a string of published novels, be filthy rich, have a beautiful wife and a selection of gold plated bicycles (the trike will be in platinum).

But I'll settle for my current fleet and the lovely Janet (that's an 'awwww' moment guys )

'Crazy Sales' looks very similar to Deals Direct. Check 'Metro Folding Bikes' for Melbourne/Victorian train/bike commuters effected by recent peak bike bans.

My Princess used to live inside, till the bloody floorboards got polished Mind you anybody who sat on the couch used to complain about a handlebar in the back of the head...

Got an el cheapo clunker that she's very unsure of herself on, not helped by coming a cropper a few years back. Without going on rides with me, she's basically a non-rider.

That's it, I am going to Bunnings tomorrow to pick up a few hooks. Almost squashed one wheel this afternoon whilst parking my car in the garage. I am going to hang all of them up by the front wheel...

BTW, be careful with resting your bike on the carpet or anything precious. It's not uncommon to get oily bits dropping off. Your partner may "kill" as a result.
