Cars have trouble driving that slowly Ross.
Had a Shadforth's ute be very patient on a ride this morning letting me track across a narrow bridge and then turning right a little further down the road. Even got a wave.

Sometimes I think the most dangerous part of my ride is my own street. No marked lanes, lots of parked cars, and not much traffic, but the traffic which is there often likes to get up to 50.
Anyway, this morning I heard a car coming up behind as I approached a parked truck. As is my habit, I kept left as long as was reasonable, but the car didn't overtake, even though most would. I gave a wave of appreciation. Then it again stayed behind me instead of attempting an overtake before the roundabout at the end of the street.
When I looked behind, I was quite surprised to see it was a tradie van. It read "Beach Glass", so I assume that means Beach Glass, Seaford. So well done to them!

I need to start posting some positive experiences .......
Had a Murray's bus slow down the other day to let me pass through a narrow pinch point. After passing through the pinch point the bus driver then overtook me and left heaps of space, I was well impressed, I even emailed Murray's to give them some positive feedback

Most drivers let me stay ahead until a good opportunity. I think they just want to have a decent look at the old guy riding a unicycle.
I hope that they are not taking pics for social media.

Are we talking ex-UWA student Adrian who, decades ago, rode a bunged up old bike and ranted and raved at drivers, buses, etc? Dressed in dirty shirt and shorts, thongs or bare foot. Mostly East Perth and Vic Park.

Yep, Adrian is still riding with same bike and dirty shirt. One of fittest guys in Perth. Have spoken with him a few times, he’s a nice bloke with a few issues. He rides a motorbike on occasion as well. He lives in Midland.
I had a go at my son a couple of weeks ago who had a run in with Adrian. He and has mate had some banter with him, which was all good and friendly but Adrian got a bit PO when they tried filming him which i told my son was fair enough.
Not sure about the UWA bit ? urban myth ?

I grew up around Midland and he's a local legend. I don't like how people make fun of him, he's obviously not all there, but people being people, I can see that he's an easy target.
What about "hairy sweaty cycling Santa"? I've seen him for years around the Balcatta/northern suburbs area. Always with no shirt on, no matter the weather, covered in a sheen of sweat along with his silver fur coat
That guy must log some serious miles too.

He goes back to early 70's thrashing his bike and, at that time, AFAIK he resided in Vic Park. Where I worked in East Perth we had some reservations about how much of his antics were real and how much was living to an image. He seemed to time his appearances to coincide with our lunch time, maximum exposure. On occasion if someone fit and able returned his challenge he would, remarkably, take on a more demure personality and slip away, only to start up again a hundred metres up the road.
He is certainly something different. At the time it seemed that, outside of startling drivers and bus passengers (he loved freaking them out), he was never a danger. On occasion he would be seen to do normal acts of kindness like returning something left at a bus stop or dropped out of a bag. Probably still the same.
At the time the skuttlebutt was that he had suffered a breakdown as a student at UWA but, like everything Adrian, no-one ever knows for sure.

Two rare encounters in one day on the dreaded Bourke Rd/St bike path.
Truck number 1 waits for me to pass before crossing bike path, ute number 2 reverses out of my way

Bus driver must have anticipated the probability of you having to suddenly swerve out of that dooring lane.

You really put the hammer down in between the two...
I love how the bike path ends and just throws you onto the footpath.

I was going for the KOM
Yeah it's a terrible design, don't know why they didn't just end it on the street. Maybe it is to encourage people to use the "shared" path.

Yes he might be a regular on this street.

The policeman who pulled up next to me at a set of lights to let me know that he had given the guy who swung across the bike lane in fornt of me into a carpark after the last set of lights a spray for me.
Was tempted to ask him if he could follow me all the way home.

First road ride for a little while on sunday morning and decided to hit up Mt Dandenong in Melbourne.
Descending I was pleasently surprised by the conduct of a Daisy's Garden Center light truck driver, who patiently cruised behind me until a straighter section and I waved them through. Thanks.

I've completed a couple of long rides out of Melbourne over the last month or two and I've got to say I've been pretty impressed with the behavior of Victorian motorists. No close passes, no abuse, letting me in when road workers decide to block the bike lane with their warning signs...maybe I just got lucky.

In the car this morning saw a truck and dog headed towards me half in my lane (wrong side of the road). Once the initial shock had passed I saw a cyclist on the shoulder, outside the fog line, the truck was giving space to. Couldn’t see any markings on the truck, otherwise it would be good to compliment the driver.

If you peel off at BP, can you ride off the main road or do you need to return to the main road?
And Cudo's to the 2 in the ute

Yes.. you can loop around the side of the airport :
off the BP exit you go on Butler Rd, turn right at Ross Smith Ave.. take it around the private plane/heli pad terminal to exit right onto Joyce Dr. Either turn right then left onto Wentworth Ave into Mascot or Left until Stamford Plaza then a right onto O'Riordan St (loop around the hotel).
I take this route with small groups or when by myself.. only do the direct Southern Cross Dr route back if in a large fast group of experienced riders.
The benefit is not only safety but also a variety of routes west/north and east open to you. Can incorporate LaPerouse loop into your ride via Wentworth Ave / Bunnerong Rd for instance for extra KMs.

This could go in the moron motorists section, but I decided to put it here as you’ll soon see why.
Last night on my commute home about 9 pm I was riding along the industrial area in kemblawarra (for those that know the area, behind Harvey Norman,) when I notice some headlights and a car pulling out from one of the industrial parks driveway. My spider senses were tingling and I thought I’d better prepare for the worst. I set up ready to haul anchor and did a head check to make sure I had an escape route and sure enough old mate came barreling out of the driveway right in front of me. I give the obligatory shouts of “OI!!!!” and a few other choice words. The worst part is, he looked straight at me, I swear he saw me, I’m lit up like a Xmas tree! I caught up to him at the traffic lights, got up onto the shared path just as he got the green arrow to turn left, I gave him another serve , “are your effin’ eyes effin’ painted on ya effin’ eff head?!” He kept going. “What a merchant banker!” I thought all the while cursing and swearing to myself. Then about 2 or 3 kms down the road, in the side street that goes into port Kembla golf club was this big bearded bloke standing next to the shared path, silver Camry parked to the side of the road. “Oh crap!” It was him. Getting my self read to drop my bike and start making hay-makers, when this softly spoken man started apologising. “I’m really sorry, I was in my own world. I didn’t see you, really, really sorry, I didn’t mean it...”
Well what could I say? “Thanks for for the apology, I appreciate it.” He was genuinely remorseful and then offered me his hand to shake. “Yeah, nah, probably shouldn’t, but thanks.” I said.
