Cycling related signs - good/bad/ugly

Believe it or not, motorists view this as an admonition to cyclists not to get in the way of cars and stay on the side of the road.

Or pedestrians must do 10 star jumps here. Despite the authoritative use of the word must, the signs appear to be completely unenforceable in any Australian jurisdiction. Further there is no such person as a dismounted cyclist - a person walking alongside a bicycle is a pedestrian. But the lack of enforceability will not stop numbies putting up meaningless signs

Ambulance response times here are bad enough as it is, you want large proportions of the populace keeling over in the streets after chucking a heartie?

On the bright side, Vic has the best Ambos in the country, total dedication to the job. Why else would they put up with so much crap for so many hours a shift for so little money?

I saw similar ones in Bright. Both signs are yellow so I was wondering, is the onus on the cyclist or cars?

Share the road signs do suck.

Re cyclists dismount signs, in Queensland they are the G9-58 sign. G series signs are guides, they are not regulatory like R series signs. The G9-58's are meant to be used as reminders of the need to dismount at a ped crossing, or as warnings for some kind of danger. The blurb in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices says:

This sign should be used where necessary to remind cyclists that they are required to dismount before crossing a road on a pedestrian crossing, a childrens crossing or a marked pedestrian crosswalk at traffic signals. The sign may also be used to warn cyclists to dismount before reaching a particular place at or beyond which it would be hazardous to continue riding. A second sign indicating the reason for the warning should, where appropriate, be mounted below this sign.

Not dismounting is not an offence as it is only a guide sign. Separate to this, ignoring the sign and crossing at a pedestrian crossing without dismounting can still earn you a ticket, but that's an actual road rule that's been broken, rather than the sign.

someone should drown the guy who took the photo and didn't quite get it in frame but think it makes sense



being vertically challenged and still many decades later suffering from being a small kid and getting left out I worry about this sign
