New commuter. Alan cross, Centaur gear with Tiagra compact crank. I put the 130mm flat stem on instead of the 70mm/+17 and it fits pretty well now.

My latest creation. Early 80's Batavus Professional, Reynolds 531c tubing, bacoma lugs and Campagnolo dropouts, running Ulegra 6700 with 6800 crankset and RS 80 hoops

Image

Picked up the frame and forks from a guy on eBay and it arrived from Eindhoven a couple of days ago, I couldn't help myself and built her up straight away. She comes just over 8 kg's and rides like a dream, i'm doing an Everest in the 1st week of June to raise funds for Nepal and will be using the Batavus.

After 6 years of resisting N+1 I gave in a few weeks ago and got a 2014 Vivente World Randonneur Deccan on special (one of the last available). I'll get the steerer cut when I drop it in for the free service.

And yes, the horn may look dorky but by crikey it's way more effective than a bell - it even gets the attention of motorists (and kids love the sound of it).

You can just see that bike looking just as beautiful in 10 years time whereas all the swish new carbon racers the next big thing will be a year or two away and out of style just as fast (and I'm as guilty as anyone invoking the n+1 style police rule).

Horrible phone photo of my daily commuter.

Trek 370 Fast Track...gifted to me from my sister...who got it from a guy at the Mildura tip.
The frame, forks and handlebars are the only original bits left
I have slowly been upgraded it as parts failed over the last couple of years.
Added Fulcrum Racing 7 wheels after a hub cracked on the original wheels. conti GP4000SII 28 on front 25 on back.
Replaced the downtube shifters with cheap sunrace shifters,
Then added a Shimano 105 5800 groupset after the original biopace chainrings became dangerously worn.
The cheapest saddle the LBS had and a longer seat post...(currently looking at alternate saddle options).
Recently added Italian Racing Mirror.
$4 rear mudgaurd. (quite inadequate but haven't found an alternative I like yet)

LBS tried to convince me to get a new bike instead of doing the 105 upgrade...but I love the frame too much.

So glad your still getting good use out of the bike I got for your sis, probably would have kept for myself if it were my size.
You've done a great job modernising it and keeping its original character, steel frames don't age, just their riders !
Cheers

Thanks BurtO! Just sneaks into a good size for me. I've done about 11,000km on it so far and other than the down tube shifters only really replaced things when they have stopped working. The tight cluster on the back was wuite a struggle on my hilly rides. Having ridden all of stu's bikes, carbon, titanium etc i still love this frame And i am surprised someone would have thrown it away!

Well, I wanted to try carbon and when the opportunity to grab a cheap 2012 Jamis Xenith Elite frameset came up locally, I decided it'd be a good way to dip the toe and see what all the fuss was about.

Image

I built it up with some DA9000 I grabbed from here, as well as a Hollowgram si crankset, FSA seatpost and Zipp cockpit and it didn't come up too bad.

Image

I took it out for the maiden voyage today and have to say that it is a very nice rig - the BB feels a lot stiffer than the CAAD10 and it transfers the power very nicely, with the added bonus of being quite smooth and comfortable on the coarse chip. I reckon I've found my new road race bike!
