Lol. One day later after writing this I have my first crash. Knocked off the bike by someone who didn't give way at a roundabout. Bike is stuffed, but luckily I got away with some bruising and bad gravel rash.
Bad luck. I've lost count of the time people don't give way at roundabouts. So I slow down on approach to them with the expectation others won't give way, so I can stop. It's frustrating, but I prefer my safety.

I've finally got 13,200km.

Almost at my yearly target. Weather permitting, I will reach it before mid-November, when I will be off the bike for a month on holiday.

2 1/2 weeks of tapering for the State Championships road race has come close to wiping out my buffer. Need to get ahead so I can have a week off the bike at year end before hitting the new year. (my target is 17K)

I will tick over 8000km this weekend, thus meeting my annual goal. It will be the furthest that I have ever ridden in a year.

It was also a sensible target, given that I will have a month off the bike as of next week while I go on holiday to South America.

I will be back in mid-December, so I will add to that total, but I don't want to predict by how much.

11000 ytd. Also passed 100k up. 2 sessions today. One fang with a buddy before work and then a Zwift GCN hill climb session tonight. It hurt...it still hurts three hours later!

Only started in September and was struggling to do 8km. Over weight and not fit.

So this year I’m aiming to do 800 km which doesn’t sound like much to some but will be big for me. Three weeks off for holidays as well.

As I told my wife, if every week I can go a few hundred meters further or a little faster to my turn around point then I’ll be happy at that ride.

Next year I’m aiming for 6000 - 10000 km.

Love it and agree with Jasonc. I love looking back at my early rides (mid 2015). Stoked to hit 20klm...amazed when I cracked a 40Kim ride before work...built up ever so slowly (very careful to not over do it). I used to look on with a combination of amazement and bewilderment at other riders on a Strava...now I can match it with many (but heaps more would still towel me)...30kgs down and I feel so much better.

Some weeks/months you may not improve. It is normal. Sometimes a sleep in is just as important as a ride. If riding stops being fun...do something else for a while.

Well done on starting and enjoy the ride!

Matt

We all started somewhere, I remember the first year I aimed for 6,000 and was amazed I managed it.

Firstly thanks to all three for the supporting words. I’m on mobile In a bad internet area so can’t tag all three.

And Matt, I am doing the same. Looking at other people rides and thinking “wow” looking at segments and thinking one day I might get to half their segment speed.

I have extra motivation in that my family I learnt suffer from heart attacks so o decided I wanted to beat my family history.

What sub is best to ask about bike set ups? Or are there meet ups where these can be discussed? More concerned with proper height set up. (Seat pole etc).

12k and 155k up over here. target was 15k and 200k but won't get there - very slim chance of reaching 15k if I suddenly develop a love of Audax rides.

some impressive figures on here! keep it up

Maybe just your own thread and anyone can pile in and answer new questions that pop up as you ride more & more?
