Good luck with the Buderim 9 tomorrow. Hope the weather holds offTheWall wrote:Well done. Always good to enjoy the last few weeks of the year without the pressure!grt046 wrote:Rolled past my annual goal this morning with a few weeks to spare ........ pretty happy with that
I had set my target to 10k as I planned to roll less than ‘17 (12300) but snuck over 12 this morning. Have narrowed the elevation gap and now at 115.5k up which is my most ever (‘17 was 108k). Buderim 9 training has helped that!
Thinking of a break over Xmas/new year after the B9...

I have during the year so far achieved:
71 imperial centuries or longer inclusive of 96 metric centuries or longer [aiming for 100 by 31/12 ]
My longest ride this year was 404.2 km on 9/12/18 - my 2nd PBP qualification ride.
Also getting close to 300,000 life time kms since 19/10/2004
Cheers

I'm at 13.5k and 170k elevation. My motivation has dried up since Tour of Bright. I might try and squeeze in a Rapha 500 though

Well done on those achievements this year! I've only reached 111km elevation so a pretty flat year that started with some small distances during January & February. I rode my slowest ever Alpine Classic (200k) in January, this was a alarm bell not to be ignored!
My body reached some all time lows this year - issues for ITB, lower back, hands & various muscle fascias from shoulder down to toes. After almost 3 months visiting a physio who has sorted me with acupuncture and massage and a prescribed set of stretches and strengthening exercises, I'm really on the way back up and just in time for the series of 4 Paris Brest Paris qualifying rides that I have to complete: 300k and 400k complete, just need to do the 200 (5/1/19) and the 600 (27/1/19) so that I can register in June. I can preregister next month because of the 1200 km Sydney to Melbourne that I completed last November. This was the ride that really completed my body's downward spiral, It was completed on top of just too much training and work during 2017.
The best bit is that now I'm retired I can ride when I feel like it!

One more easy ride.
Congratulations to all, from 6K up to some huge totals. They're all good achievements.
Happy Christmas and let the new year roll safely.

Well done Jules and Jason.
And agreed, Cavebear2's kilometres are enormous.
I clocked up 17,003km today with 152km today, making 532km for the week.

Well... Did you promise less distance or fewer rides? Any leeway in the number of rides?TheWall wrote:I have discovered I have an interesting dilemma...I DID promise my extremely understanding wiffeee that I would ride less in 2018 than I did in 2017. I would never, make a promise like that. My bike time is my chill-out and de-stress time and is not, open for discussion with anyone other than me.TheWall wrote:I have discovered I have an interesting dilemma...I DID promise my extremely understanding wiffeee that I would ride less in 2018 than I did in 2017. Does my wife spend over an hour a day on herself and “her time” (and this does not inc ride prep and post ride wind down). No way...riding is fairly selfish in a lot of ways and I have seen some separations amongst friends. Did not really want to go the same way...
So how has this year been different despite the same km’s I hear nobody ask? I have worked hard to be more “present” and my rides have fitted around more things such as rides to kids sports and meeting them there and back home from places we go. Also stupid o’clock in the morning has been found! Lastly, the new trainer has been effective...wiffeee goes out, I wrangle the kids into bed and then go for ride! Winning...

Of the above total, a large amount was for the 29 consecutive days I spent in the Pyrénées, from 6th Sep to 4th Oct: that saw me doing 2235km with 49km of up, more than I've ever done in a month (even if it wasn't a calendar month).
I'll be cycling in the French Alps next year for a similar period, so will probably do about the same as the above, averaging about 80km and 1700m climbing per day, because I seem to be able to keep that up indefinitely, provided I do leg muscle stretches before and after every ride, and don't push myself too hard on the rides.

That's massive elevation, well done. I'm doing plenty of riding at the moment to get to my yearly target, I'm about 150km away from the target now.Cyclophiliac wrote:14,275km for the year, with 190km of up. I would have done a few more rides this week but felt depressed and demotivated, so it's not happening.

I'm also going back to France next year- this time planning to make a longer stay. Potentially China or Oman too, but undecided about those at the moment. Hopefully not broken bike next time around.
