Eek, that's a bit early. There is another one at the M7 service centre that is quite persistent - not in swooping but running after anyone it thinks might have food. I've never had anything suitable for it - but it is pretty good in its attempts.biker jk wrote:A riding buddy of mine was swooped there on Monday.tez001 wrote:Just got a notification saying the magpie at Old Windsor Rd, Norwest is back.

While you lot are being swooped, I'll be enjoying riding far away from any magpies.

Same here. I don't think I've ever spotted a magpie in the Pyrénées (where I'll be for all of September). The large vultures, on the other hand, I think I'll keep my distance from...g-boaf wrote:Eek, that's a bit early. Never seen that one before, unless its the one near the tip (which I thought was no longer there)g-boaf wrote:There is one on the M7 cycleway near the management centre which is particularly persistent, it will chase anyone it thinks might have food.

Is there anything we can do that will actually help not to get swooped?
Do cable ties actually do anything?
I am going to attempt to stick some eyes on the back of my helmet to see if that helps.

I ride out of Norwest BLVD towards Parramatta and I've been going to the M7 cyclepath rather than take on the maggie.vosadrian wrote:The Norwest Maggie had a pretty good go at me about an hour ago. I did not realise it was already magpie season, so the first swoop gave me a good fright. He is pretty committed. Despite me waving my arm over my head he was making contact, and kept going all the way to the lights.

Saturday I got hit repetitively by a bloody butcher bird in the back streets of Margate.
Thought it was a maggie due to how hard he was hitting me.
Sunday midday, a maggie hit me hard and repetitively on the inbound descent from Nundah shops to Toombul Shopping center on Sandgate Road, even while there was heavy traffic driving past.
Welcome back to Queensland!

You could put a scarf around your head, ears and wear a helmet with hundreds of cable ties. I saw that the other day.Neddysmith wrote:Yep definately the Maggies are out in force already, my mates missus been cut on the ear while out running, another mate, drew blood just in front of ear yesterday, i been swooped repeatedly a few times, once was at 530 in the morning pitch darkness.....
