which type of seat post, seat post clamp is better?

i don't seem to find anything about them on internet. now i got 2 bikes with different kind of seatpost.



whats the difference and which is better?

Neither? Well if I had to choose one the bottom one with the vertical screw and jaw clamp (but I rather two screw vertical clamps with the wheel adjustment). I don't like the side screw clamps at all and Selle SMP saddles can have real problems with them slipping. Although I do remember a guy in a Trek shop swore black and blue their side clamps didn't have any problems with Selle SMP saddles.

Transverse bolt clamps are rubbish. Simple as that. Single vertical bolt clamps are better, but tend to lack fine adjustment, and cam also tend to slip when they get old.

I have a love hate relationship with Thomson seatposts. I have an Elite and a Masterpiece on two of by bikes. I love the strength of the clamp but why do they have 4mm instead of 5mm hex bolts. I've pretty much rounded one of the bolts already. Also with bikes that have a chuncky seatpost collar clamps like on one of my bikes, the rear bolt sits right underneath the collar and no room to put a hex key under there (or a torque wrench) so I have to pull up my post higher before I can tighten the saddle clamp. Really annoying. I love the Giant road bike seat posts the most both ISP and Standard with the fine adjustment. A few makes have the same kind (had the same on my Spesh Roubaix before I sold it). Last year or a couple of years ago I bought a Deda Superleggero and is a fairly decent post like I think most of the Deda post range (I.e like the zero).

Was about to agree with all and rubbish side mount, but then checked the Giant CX race bike and its side mount. Seat/mount takes a hammering jumping on and off racing, and can't fault it. Although Trek MTB with side mount Bontrager post and saddle is rubbish. Had to grind to get it to work and still need massive tightening to hold.
Road bikes all verticle over the years and no issues.

Giant ISP is a great solution, the seat post is integrated, easy.

My Cervelo has an arrangement similar to the first photo from the OP, it gives no trouble but it is maddening to configure it first time.

Gar, this +1000, I've got 5 Thompson style posts, 2 eastons, 1 nukeproof and 2 thompsons... the eastons and NP are joys to use (actually make that 7, 2 droppers as well), the Thompsons... burn them with fire!!! the tiny bolts are so fiddly, I hate using them.

My fav from years ago was an American classicyou just put the seat rails on the cradle, do it up, then you had another bolt to adjust the tilt, perfect.

Got a 3T recently with some sidebolt arrangement, super weird to set up, but once done, seems good.
