Disappointed there were only two of the Five Horsemen of the Cycling Apocalypse - shaft drive & u-beaut tyres - no funky saddles, automatic gears or powerful cranks (bent cranks, oval chain rings, lever-cycle, power cam etc etc)

I feel that the zipp-on-tread-tyres are worthy of at least one horseshoe.

As a list of wild ideas, it is ok. The Ceramic Speed is still a fairly new concept, not because of the drive shaft but the gearing. Havn't seen any real-word testing (following the launch of the concept).

I guess innovation should continue to be applauded even though many concepts have their limitations in the practical application.

Not being a mountain biker, are the magnetic pedals legit or rubbish? I mean, it sounds alright on paper, but maybe it doesn't work in the real world.

I was thinking they may be a good middle ground for commuters - some foot retention with shoes you can walk in.

Indeed. Probably most of these will tank, but it's good to see experimentation. Even the article says, "these aren't necessarily the best things from the past year, so much as they're simply some of the most unique".
