Hi guys, am doing the Melburn Roobaix this year and wondering if anyone can offer any suggestions on what to expect? I wouldn't mind heading into the city before hand to have some practice on the cobbles. Can anyone suggest any segments to practice on?
Much appreciated in advance

Just go and ride any cobbled lanes you can find. I've never done it, but my understanding is they change the course every year, and you don't find out exactly where you're riding until just before the event, so can't really test any specific bits.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

The ride usually starts in Hawthorn with several sectors in Hawthorn and Kew before crossing the river.Hildalgo wrote: Can anyone suggest any segments to practice on?

There are lots of laneways in these suburbs, several near Glenferrie oval are lengthy.
Good riding
There is NO room in the shed for the next bike! New shed rqd.

I've only done it once and that year they didn't actually specify a set course. The map only told you where the cobblestone sections are. Nothing was said about how to get to each one. But from memory, it was about 40kms via the shortest route and most people just followed the group they happened to be with hoping someone knew where they were going!

Dude,
It's amazing! Cobbles aren't so bad. The downhill cobbles can get hairy the rest are just a little uncomfortable on the nuts. I used to ride/race downhill, prior to kids. Some advice, Ass over the back wheel unweight the front, you'll just hammer down without a worry in the world.
My route last year https://www.strava.com/activities/334467969 super chill'd not a fast pace, it was just really really good fun. Everyone is in it for the laughs.

Good fun day out there today. Had the full winter kit on all day. Some were waaay braver in their choice of clothing (mostly for the lack of coverage)

Great fun day, I have even more respect for the pros riding over those cobbles at speed, very bumpy and slippery.

Yesterday was Epic!
How good's the vibe? In one cobble section someone managed to move all the way left to right hitting another rider into the brick wall and caused him to go down into a massive puddle - firstly no anger or a single profanity said. Everyone was forced to stop and not a single complaint. Some cycling events there's way to much ego - the Roobaix has none of that, it's just awesome.
Froze my balls off I have to say, face was warm with a Balaclava and Moto Googles. But even with a tucked in Flanny and 2 layers of Lycra and Thermals underneath I was damn cold on the chest.
I thought the sections this year was exceptional, last year there was little cobbles between hawthorn at Temple Brewing, there was a really good level of consistency of sections this year along the whole trail.
FYXO Thanks!
