Mitcham to Syndal Pipe Track being paved?

Postby nandystam » Sun Jan 08, 2017 4:43 pm

Hi all

I've recently noticed that some sections of this pipe track trail (around Burwood Highway and Mahoneys Road in Forest Hill) have been paved. Are there plans to pave the entire trail and/or are any other sections of this track paved?

It's an interesting trail as it it helps join two other trails together, but given the state of the trail it's never been much fun unless you're on a MTB..

It's part of this overall project https://www.bicyclenetwork.com.au/gener ... igns/2656/ which was funded initially under ALP then lost when Baileau/Napthine govt cancelled then relaunched bike funding....I believe there has been some $$ allocated since the ALP regained govt so expect to see it gradually pieced together, I guess.

It got a mention in the Whitehorse Leader in the last couple of weeks.

Must be an election coming on.

Meanwhile we are still waiting for completion of the Box Hill to Ringwood path which may just get to be finished before November 2018.

I rode from Mount Pleasant Rd to Springvale Rd today.

Very rough single track and a bit spongy after the recent rain.

The section from Burwood Hwy through to Highbury Rd has recently been paved, but it's still fenced off despite being completed since Christmas.
Not sure what's left before they can open it. Also not sure if they plan on paving it further south to High St. :?:
