Apparently it is compulsory to wear their jersey this year.

Also seems to be compulsory to buy it as part of the entry fee.

That's me out.... too much money.

Especially for a shi$$y jersey I wouldn't want to wear even once.

They've lost the plot.

That rules out all club riders that want to ride in their team kit

Base layer... Nothing about being visible.

Seriously though, normally do this one, but seriously reconsidering now. I feel no need to pay to advertise for them.

How much was it last year? And did you have to wear their jersey?

Perhaps you should part with your cash again this year Luke, and go do one of the most uninspiring rides known to mankind!
You never know, there might be something in their goodie bag that resembles Garmin literature. I know you'd love that.

And if not, there's always the muesli bar and bottle of water at Beenleigh to make you feel like you've 'got your money's worth'!!

It would seem like the onus is solely on you for everything. They don't want to take responsibility for anything! :?

I do find this mandatory jersey thing a bit odd. Are they looking to get maximum value for their sponsors? Or are they trying to identify the riders that join at the busway etc and ride along without paying. There are a few of them I'm told.

I think it has something to do with the 10th anniversary. Having ridden this ride for a few years now, I'm considering skipping it. I'm waiting on further clarification from BQ.

Bingo - a mate of mine emailed to complain about it and this is the exact reasoning they gave for it.

Fine have the 10 year anniversary jersey (hell you want to subsidize the damn thing, it's $10 cheaper than the standard scody jersey but has two sponsors logos on it and Scody would be producing few thousand jerseys!), but don't force people to buy it or where it. Whats ironic is, they still have team entries this year which makes no sense. Can't wear your team jersey but still enter as a team?

Just saw this floating around:

Q:Is wearing the jersey compulsory?
A: "We won’t be forcing or ejecting people who don’t wear it."

Q: If riders don't wear the jersey, how will BQ manage this? (E.g. penalties for riders).
A: "as above N/A"

Q: Will BQ please make the jersey optional?
A: "The jersey is included in the entry price. If you don’t want it that’s ok but the entry price remains the same. Sorry we cant (sic) be more flexible for you."

Yeah, they've changed the wording.

"* Entry includes an official event cycling jersey. Bicycle Queensland requests all Riders wear this jersey
whilst participating in the Event, unless part of an official Major Sponsor team, who have their own team
kits, which have been approved by the Organiser."

My bold highlighting the change.
