It's a highly unenforceable rule.
It's not as if they pay the legion of volunteer traffic controllers.

I'm over it. I can ride down the coast any weekend. And the novelty has worn off riding the busway - too many slow and inexperienced riders (gooses or corporate teams) take off too early, and obstruct others who did the right thing.

I'm surprised how everyone is bashing the jersey, I reckon every ride that you pay above $100 for should come with a free one. It annoys me even more when I have to pay another $100 for the comemorative jersey.

I think making 5000 riders wear the same jersey has not been well thought through whatsoever. Apart from being unenforceable by volunteer marshalls, imagine trying to find your mates at the start, or trying to catch up to them after being dropped, or finding them at the fuel stations or end.

I think a lot more people would pay if the entry fee was closer to $50 than $100, which is a lot of money to students and part time workers.
These socioeconomic realities don't seem to be well understood by corporates who ride pinarellos.

Is there a route map anywhere that shows the best (and safest) way to ride from the finish line to Helensvale train station?

Gold coast HWY west from Harbour Town is good with a wide shoulder for most of the way.
Option A : Go via Marine parade then Brisabne rd
or
Option B : West on Musgrave Ave, North along Olsen Ave and then West (AT) Harbour Town
Avoid Central St if you can

Or just follow one of the trains that are usually heading there for safety in numbers.

+100000000000

I was going to enter with a bunch of mates but I think we're all going to pass now. ~$50 is reasonable but $100+? Don't want to pay to be an advertising billboard for someone.

Hope they get terribly low number of entries and are forced to reverse this ridiculous decision.

For those that have registered, are we supposed to be receiving stuff in the mail (eg. jersey, etc)? It's not long now I would have assumed we'd see something soon.

I have not done this ride before. is it a slow ride most of the way or a moderate 28-32km/h? is it as bad as some have written? would I have more fun just riding with mates?

It's a bit of everything. The thing with these rides are that what some might be perceived as fast paced might be casual paced for others. Problems start occurring when the slower riders start mixing it with the faster riders (usually the corporate sponsors that started first doing 20-25kph on flatbars before the faster riders doing 35-40+kph on roadies) or when you get people treating it as a race without the proper race/group knowledge ie focused so much on the wheel infront they don't know that the lead rider has just gone past Eight Mile Plains bus station and has started to merge onto the Gateway the wrong way. If you start mid pack/a reasonable time after the majority of the faster riders a lot of these issues are usually avoided.

The whole premise of this ride is to raise money for the Heart Foundation. Not one mention of this in the comments yet.

I'll make a mention of it then, when my brother and i did it in ~2008, his motivation was the heart surgery he had as a week old baby. I don't think either of us had done 100kms in one ride then, but we made it there eventually, and it felt great to collapse on the grass at southport.

My stuff arrived yesterday. Jersey fits fine. That tag they want attached to the handlebars is going to create a bit of wind resistance :-)
