Now that is just plain silly. [emoji15]

Was planning to make it my Buderim 10 as I figured it is a 20k ride in from home as the warm up and crawl home...I am guessing it starts and finishes up top?

Where do I find the order of the hills - or does it change every year?

Bit dicey down Dixon yesterday with the volume of gravel in the 'bike' lane.

It finishes at the top at the park opposite Vandy's Garage (which is now a hipster coffee shop) but the start is down at the big organic food place at the highway end of Mons Road. Every year at the pre-race briefing at the finish line they say "Now just cruise down to the start, no need to rush", and every year i see 70+kmh along with everyone else  .

The order is always the same, my approach was to run through the segment over and over til i memorized it- https://www.strava.com/segments/6237489?filter=overall" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You normally get a little card with the race bag to go on the top tube, but it just lists the street names, and they can be hard to spot at *cough cough* kmh :) . The signage on course has improved significantly over the last couple of years though, and last year it was excellent.

I've signed up for this years'. Lachie when you say that the signage was excellent last year, do I need to bother memorising the course? I know it can't hurt, but...

OT question for the locals, is it ok to cycle over the Maroochy River Southbound on the Sunshine Mwy?

There is a dedicated bikeway over the bridge Crawf. The path runs from Mudjmba road and you can see it loop back on itself to access the road along the river (or the path continues dowb to Maroochydore Rd.

Well that hurt. Being 6'4 and 96kg does no favours on this one.

HRM didn't work for some reason. Better return next year to get the 2mins I need to get under 3 hours.

Excellent effort mate, would have been getting pretty warm by the time you finished?

Thanks Foo and Idrcycles and yep, sure was getting warm out there. Made the iced mocha the wifee and kids had waiting for me go down pretty well (and fast) [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND TIGHTLY-CLOSED EYES]. Great event with heaps of residents of Buderim out on their driveways cheering the riders on.

Well I reckon it hurts everyone. Being 6 foot and 68 kilos I still hurt like a bastard coming up the last hill. I suspect TheWall drops some big watt bombs.

Buderim 9 Hills Ride - 22nd December 2013

Postby TheWall » Mon Dec 21, 2015 11:02 pm

Thanks. Crosby Rd (2nd last climb) as I fight to beat the cutoff...Image

Found me again zig zagging on the last pinch of the last climb that IDR has mentioned as the worst of the worst... Freakin dying but seemingly doing better than the guy in the background. Image

Still hurting today. Will go for a light ride tomorrow...but no hills!!!

I gave it a crack too - mega tough ride! I didn't realise that the pinches would be as sharp as they were (I had been doing repeats of Mt Gravatt for training, but now I know that it's simply not steep enough.

I managed 8 climbs in the 3 hours (then followed the signed instead of heading back to the Lions park and ended up repeating the 1st climb again). I will be back next year - hopefully 10kg lighter which may help me finish the damn thing!

I was enjoying the event until I got simultaneous VMO spasming cramps in my left and right legs half-way up the 8th climb - I had to stop and stretch and there weren't any smiles after that!

Alright...who is in for 2016?!?

http://www.buderim9.com.au (awesome how the website primary photo has someone walking up the steep part of Lyndsay Rd - the 2nd hill!)

First Buderim sighter ride this morning with 4 hills covered...damn they hurt. On the plus I did push out some much improved PR's.

I'm only a slim outside chance, 14mth old girl means not a lot of time for riding. I'd like to think i can get enough fitness happening in the next couple of months.

I wouldn't mind having a go but I have night shift that night. See how I go. I really would need to increase my climbing and riding at threshold though

LDR: Would be good to have you on board...your hill times from 2013 are epic. Maybe you need to invite Foo???

Singlespeedscott: I think your climbing ytd is fine!

Jasonc: You could be back in Brisbane by 10am (unless cramps get you)

Mrs JasonC would shoot me. We're off to Melbourne a couple of days after and she'd want me to be there to spend time with the family, or something.
unless you can work it out, i think we'd have to go up the night before.

Sign on is 4am at Lyons Park in Buderim and ride starts at 5am sharp after a roll down Mons Rd (Hill One). Ride finishes at 8am and you have to make the top of Hill 8 (Crosby) by 735am to get through to the 9th.
