Can't see this KOM sticking for long, as the fast riders find out how nice the trail is they'll be onto this one for sure... :P

The asphalt is complete for the trail itself, the cul de sac at the eastern end is still waiting on it's top coat and the only other thing that I noticed is that they're marking the pathway up for line painting for some reason... Good to see our tax money going to good use.

Here is the complete trip through this newly sealed section of the trail for those who haven't been able to get out there for a captain cook:

Went out today via the Rail Trail, got 3rd on the segment behind Luke, some chap has a good time to Samford which will be a challenge. I actually had to come to a complete stop right at the start is there was a forklift and digger working so stopped and then had to roll past slowly, surprised to have still got top 3.

Anyhow, I like the route as before I used to go via Lochinvar Rd, that has a sting to it but depends on what mood I'm in. :D

Traffic in Samford itself can be a real bugger for that segment. I'm not normally known for overtaking cars on my bike, but last Saturday...

Do you want a tow? [emoji6]

BTW, to be fair you need to have done a 70km warmup first, and be riding on 35mm tyres like me.

Having a Strava segment that includes a decent stretch of shared use trail is really dumb. The rail trail always has joggers, families with small kids on bikes, off leash dogs and the occasional horse rider. Ripping through there at speed is dangerous and will upset a lot of the locals, who, judging by the outraged comments on one of the local FB groups, already pretty much hate us.

If you look at the segment, you might notice it was created years ago. Also there are other segments on the trail part only, also created years ago.

I agree people need to ride responsibly and to the conditions. When ride through there last weekend going west I saw no one on the trail section itself (see the video) and coming back one pedestrian with two dogs, I slowed and gave due consideration.

I do agree that chasing a KOM is no excuse for riding with undue consideration or care.

If you see some one up ahead you slow down duuhhhh. I remember first smashing that segment on the roadie when it was gravel only to find out later on that there was a strava segment along it. If you take strava too seriously then as the TAC will say "youre a bloody idiot".

Rode through here last Saturday for the first time since February. I was pleased to see the highest number of cyclists I think I've ever seen on the rail trail. One bunchie, and a few solo roadies, and I even saw more MTB's than I've ever seen there before.

The painted line markings have a greenish tinge to them, anyone know if they are phosphorescent?
