Secure parking in Port Augusta

Postby surly56 » Mon Jul 07, 2014 9:27 pm

Hello Folks,
I am heading over to SA in the last week of August to do a tour from Port Augusta.
Am having difficulty finding a secure place to leave my car in Port Augusta for the 3 to 4 weeks required.
All suggestions gratefully received - please pm me.
Regards,
Ross

Hi surly56 ,
I suggest a motoring organisation or the local bloke that does Rac work,if there is one there. They will know or even assist if possible.

Having been in Port Augusta earlier in the year, it probably won't be easy. RAC or similar would be a great place to start.

We stay at the big 4 caravan park once a year en masse as a get together before heading to Lake Gairdner for speedweek. Friendly and helpful, sling a few bucks they might hold your car for you?

Being a caravanner I suggest you check out the permanent patrons first. Van parks can be full of guys that have made it their last stop in life......just saying.

Agreed, the big 4 doesn't have too many permanents(?or any), but they ran a pretty tight ship in not sure they'd be keen to look after a car for too long.

have you joined warmshowers? There may be host in Pt Augusta or nearby willing to park your car. I've read a few journals which mention a host in Quorn, about 40km away I think.

Thanks to everyone for the ideas.
Will definitely try the local RAC guy.
As suggested, I would prefer to check out any caravan parks in person before inquiring further.
Had not heard of Warm Showers - looks interesting.
Best,
Ross

The very nice folks at the Quorn Caravan Park are going to look after my car, for a small charge.
I have stayed there twice before and would definitely recommend this park.
Last visit, they gave me a discount because I was riding a bike.
Thanks for all the advice.
