I noticed the hump on the way home this evening (heading north). On the way in (heading south) didn't notice it, in the morning.

Will report next to MainRoads to rectify before it gets too large.
Sounds like it's time to fit the bmx bars again (jokes, but not really...)! Thanks for reporting it Roland.

These are around 15cm in height and do make an interesting ride if you fail to notice them.

It is back. 1st hot day, and concrete has risen again.

Should be even bigger tomorrow with higher forecast temperatures.

What a balls up. Section left significantly worst off with the concrete now broken in several places. Only witches hats around the broken section, no early warning signs installed.

There is 10+million dollars of underspend by the state government on bike path upgrades. The State government blames the local councils. Councils the government etc. One of the main path upgrades is the Freeway path North out of Perth to Glendalough Train station. I only have another 13 years to retirement so I hope the Government does not do any Major work on this section. They have been nearly 2 years doing one lane for a couple of kilometres on the freeway (cost unknown). If they do any serious work on the Freeway path they will barricade it for 5 years prior to start of works with bypasses onto extremely dangerous streets. There will be 7000K of spend on Consultants. A 5 year 2 kilometre path reconstruction with 3 year time extension. By the time it is finished all the interconnecting links will have collapsed even further. I will then have to listen to endless local councillers, MRD apparatchiks etc telling me how they are improving cycling infrastructure. A few more in depth surveys like the recent one telling me how satisfied I am. I enjoy the 20 to 30 thousand dollars per M2 slab and shovel of bitumen on the edges repairs they are doing. Gives me a challenge on my mountain bike.

Three months on, and path still not repaired. Followed up twice with MainRoads this week:

And now CXCommuter has hit that cracked, rear wheel went into the crack and has damaged his rim. Not good enough!

Very disappointing.

E-mail sent off again to MainRoads (CC'ing Reece.Waldock and Minister.Buswell) asking when it will be repaired.

Response back from MainRoads - pointing me to MainRoads Customer Service Charter.

I have also now received 4 complaint numbers on this matter:
C13#2869 - 15-Nov-2013
C13#220 - 21-Jan-2014
C14#268 - 24-Jan-2014
C14#283 - 26-Jan-2014

Note, I was out of the country from late November until early January - which is why there is a large gap. But, it was reported and followed up twice before I left and should have been fixed last year.

I also moved a couple of discarded items.

Located next to Mitchell Fway - the tree this witches hat was protecting from the wild life I thought was better located

In 7-odd years of commuting to work, there has never been a rubbish bin located at Karrinyup/Mitchell Fway exit, but was there when I returned from Europe in early Jan - it was completely empty so no-one is using it

I also purchased some 'Danger' tape.

Aha, that was your work was it :D
I went through there to/from a BBQ yesterday (on the MTB, as there was alcohol involved and I wanted something a bit more stable for the ride home!).

Noted a whole heap of markings this morning, signposting and cones also, hopefully getting fixed shortly.

Based on a few peoples experience I will be sending a complaint in and ultimately an invoice- if possible does anyone have an example letter (preferably successful) that may help- also Roland I will likely reference your history of concerns raised over this section.

Thanks in advance

Please keep us updated.

It will be much harder for Main Roads to disclaim liability in this situation as they had received 4(!) complaints about the affected section before the incident occurred and they quite obviously didn't take reasonable steps to make it safe.

Complaint has been lodged referencing previous correspondence and indicating likely cost to repair/replace the rear wheel. Will see what eventuates- not holding out too much hope

I would be surprised if Main Roads coughs up any dough without formal legal action. May have been better to get a letter drawn up by a solicitor?

I suspect a solicitor drafting up a letter would cost more than the wheel being rebuilt with a new rim/spokes. I am keeping it simple in this case. If it was a broken high end carbon frame that is a different matter.

Heard back from Minister of Transport today - The Minister of Transport has requested that Main Roads Western Australia attend to the matter you have raised and respond to you directly.

Have a claim form from Main Roads to fill in now.

Kudos also to Pro Lite who have helped out massively with a new rear rim (Merano) being built up on the old hub at a very good price.

That is what should be done as a first stop gap when marking it for major repair, or immediately after, not 3 months later =P
At least there's room for improvement =D

That section has been repaired today. They look like they pulled up the section of concrete, and re-laid again - all done in 1 day.

I had even carried the witches hat that some lovely person moved to Karrinyup Rd this morning, back to the correct location.
