Old Pappa's Route

Postby esseff » Mon Jan 24, 2011 1:22 am

I used to ride with the main Old Pappa's group from Freo years ago but I believe they are doing a longer route these days. We used to do Mt Henery and Narrows bridges but I believe they now do Shelley bridge and the Causeway.

Just wondering if someone could confirm the route and the main roads they take.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, that's great.

Seems quite diferent - the first part doesn't seem to follow the river as much as it used to (Pt Walter - Melville beach pde - Majesctic hill - etc).

I guess there are lots of groups now taking slightly different routes.

Yeah, great blog.

I remember when I was doing it there used to be a "Hares and Hounds" group - a handfull of A graders would do an extra loop at the Narrows that would put them about 1km behind - then they would chase down the main pack. Usually got them by the old Sunset Hospital in Dalkieth, where they would flash past.

I accidently got stuck in the Hounds groups one time and got seriously abused for not working to catch the Hares - little did they know I didn't mean to be there and I was only barely hanging on...

Went to go check it out this morning and apart from a few cyclists sitting inside having coffee, there was no one around!
