I was looking forward to resuming my commute but gave it a miss for today.
Doesnt get much worse than a 40+ degree screaming headwind.

I still think it is better than hail/rain, single digit temperatures degrees and 80km/h headwinds (winter storms)- at least it is just you falling apart and not the bike being ground into muddy dust

43.8 at the moment, so the internet tells me.

Hoping it drops a couple before I ride home.

BOM is predicting 38 at 5pm. I recommend tipping your water over your head, not down your throat.

Left at 320, it is hot out there.

Ok by the river, but uncomfortable on the midland line bike path.

Going to turn the hose on myself in the carpark here before I leave work- should be dryish by home- I think it will be too hot to sweat.

I'll leave the water bottle for keeping the throat not completely parched

GPS unit picking up heat from the road topped out at 51C when I was riding through Perth Airport to pick up a package. Did the Captain Sensible thing with the cargo bike but and balanced the load out by putting a shopping bag full of ice and drinks on the other side of the rack from the package. Had spare ice at the end of the ride so could afford to call out to other riders in South Perth "hey, do you want some ice?" but left before the cops showed up to investigate. Average temp was 40.2C for the ride.

I didnt get away from work until about half 5, but it wasnt toooooooooo bad yesterday arvo.
Enough to thoroughly enjoy a cold shower, but I have probably ridden in worse before.

Pretty balmy out there this morning though. Humid and sticky.
Whats with all the smog around the city?

It must be something to do with the humidity. The visibility reminds me of S.E. Asia, and riding through Northbridge this morning, there were similar smells too!

edit: High relative humidity can significantly increase the effect of pollution on visibility. - EPA

SE / ESE gusting to 40 KMH possibly stronger off the river, Makes for a challenging headwind

I was surprised how bad the SE is along the Kwinana freeway path (this is my first summer commuting this way). I assumed it would be worse coming off the river, but actually a bit of east seems to negate that bit of shelter the riverside vegetation gives you from the seabreeze.

'sfunny. I was riding with my mate this morning, who is an otherwise incredulous ex-Melburnian, and I made the comment heading along the Como foreshore; "I bet local Social Media will be all abuzz about this little bit of fog this morning"

Sure enough, I get home and logon to reddit with my morning cuppa and someone's posted this one. One more reason why I don't own a BNA or Reddit jersey ;)
