I've got some video of a dolphin last week with weed on the fin, seemed to be diving to the bottom going in circles and coming up covered in weed. I thought it might be tangled but a few minutes later seemed to swim off happily with another dolphin and apparently a clean fin.

I spotted the skewbald rat (brown and white patches) at Canning Bridge in daylight today. I presume its an escaped pet or descendent of one.

A young fox ran across the PSP north of Gribble Road this morning. 1m above, 1m behind a crow was keeping it company - not sure if one was chasing the other, if they were playing together or just coincidence. The fox paused briefly half way across, turned towards me and nodded an "alright dude" and carried on his way. At least that's how I remember it but I didn't get much sleep last night and could have been imagining that part.

Just need a certain 54yo driver from The Vines in a red Mazda 3 with white on black license plate "VAVOO..." to get the Fox to look at him the wrong way, and your problem will go away ;)

Just got this from Swan River Trust
Dear Dolphin Watcher,

We regret to advise you that a deceased dolphin calf has been retrieved from the Milyu Marine Park in South Perth.

Murdoch University has identified the mother of the deceased calf as Tupac, the mother of Gizmo.

The cause of death is not known and the Trust is unable to confirm whether or not Tupac’s calf is the same dead dolphin that was seen in Challenger Harbour, Fremantle earlier this week.

Please report river incidents to the Trust on 9278 0900 or after hours on 0419 192 845.

Sick, injured or orphaned native animals, including dolphins can be reported to the Trust, or directly to the Department of Parks and Wildlife on the 24 hour WILDCARE Helpline on 9474 9055.

Thanks for your continuing and important contribution to the Dolphin Watch project.

A rat ran across the PSP in front of me by Edgewater station last night. I haven't seen the fox for over a week, though.

Perth

Yesterday a rabbit scampered across my path in Bateman on the short access path onto the PSP.

I reckon that I only see a rabbit about every couple of years. Which is a good thing.

There were a group of lets say "older generation" riding group whom had stop on the side of the freeway north PSP around Como. Lets just say a lady decided to get back onto the riding path onto on coming traffic and decided to just pile up the whole group and stop oncoming cyclist. If it wasnt for brakes and doing a burn out skid, I reckon I would have just taken this crazy lady and her whole group out. Sometimes it just shows no matter how well you prepare, signal, safely ride in groups, mishaps accidents occur. I know this aint related to Wild life or animals, but they lady jumping out on the PSP principle I say she is an wildlife animal! (either that she needs her eyes humanly checked)

I had two Pelicans flit by just under my feet on the Mt Henry bridge path last night. Lit up by the bridge lights against the dark river, nice way to finish the commute.

Blowfish strung up as a warning to other blowies

Saw this little guy strung up under Canning Bridge last night.

The hook was at eye level so I felt compelled to take him down.

My first snake sighting for the year. Sunning its self on the PSP as I turned off the Windan Bridge, South end.

Jon Sanders Drive Osborne Park. This morning and yesterday afternoon. Yes it is next to Herdsman Lake which is teaming with snakes but I don't see that many near the path

There is a pretty angry wattlebird at the corner of the bike path near Maylands sailing club as you head up river over the "driveway" into their carpark. Definitely not as scary as a magpie, but please be aware.

Also, be aware of a stupid Galah flying around Perth. I met him near the Windan Bridge when he realised I was in his flight path and his avoidance technique (which needed work btw) resulted in me copping a Galah to the side of the head. Luckily he was pulling up so it wasn't at full tilt, but was unexpected.

Cycling home (NoR) on Friday afternoon, I passed a long necked tortoise sunning itself on the southbound lane, near that little lake the path goes around past the Gribble Rd section (? worst sense of direction ever). Must have been nice and comfy as it didn't move a muscle as I went past.

My first Aussie wild life encounter while cycling was this chap today at loftus

Image

It was across the trail as I came round the corner. I had a Say What moment and stopped while it scuttle up the tree next to the trail (pictured)

It was quite big by pommie standards. Shoulder to hip was about 1ft (30cm)

Anyone know what it is?
