A 1M Dugite crossed my path this morning on Langford Flats.

I was way more bothered than it was !

Ok, not cycling related but on Sunday evening we had a random stranger knock our door and ask "Is this your rabbit?" The correct reply should have been (to paraphrase Pulp Fiction):
Us: Did you notice a sign out in front of our house that said "Lost Bunny Storage"?
Random Stranger: No. I didn't.
Us: You know WHY you didn't see that sign?
Random Stranger: Why?
Us: 'Cause it ain't there, 'cause storing lost bunnies ain't our [expletive] business, that's why!

But I guess I need to start making a sign  Mainly because the lady who was waving the bunny at us was also being yelled at from the car by her partner who had some VERY unsavoury ideas as to what should happen to the rabbit.

If you're missing this bunny then please let me know (Bayswater/Maylands area) - it doesn't like kale (I don't blame it) and it has "attitude". We have a few potential homes lined up for it (but I haven't told them about the "attitude" yet - this is a seriously stroppy bunny).

I saw a Sand Monitor or racehorse goanna near the PSP between Paganoni Rd and Karnup Rd on Monday.
It was a good day for reptiles:
41.6 deg max in Perth
Monday's ride:
155.1 km
avg. speed 29.5kmh
GPS avg. temp 40 degrees (in the sun of course)
8 bidon's drunk, half of which came from a 3L hydration bladder frozen before the start.

We had a similar "attitude" bunny turn up at our back door. We have rear laneway so pets get bumped from time to time. Anyway advert for free in Gumtree got a result within a couple of days

Narrowly missed a little ninja turtle sunbaking on the PSP just north of Leederville. Seemed to be a resident of the swamp in the middle of the freeway on-ramp.

Hopped off to escort it on its way back to the water, it was pretty lucky not to get squished.

Saw a smallish (2 ft) snake on the road slithering along the kerb near the Beehive school in North Freo. Heavily frequented road by cyclists, I guess snakes live in the coastal verge and the train reserve area.

Something for Perth cyclists to keep an eye out for (alert from dolphin watch)

Dear Dolphin Watcher,

We have received a photo that appears to show a dolphin with a possible fishing line entanglement around its dorsal fin.

Murdoch University researchers have identified the dolphin as Dunedoo, a resident dolphin that has been regularly sighted in the Riverpark since 2009.

We seek your assistance in locating and monitoring this dolphin, to help ascertain whether it is in fact suffering from fishing line entanglement. If you see Dunedoo, or manage to photograph her, please record the date, time, location and direction of travel (and photo if you have one) and email us at guardians@dpaw.wa.gov.au or call the Wildcare Helpline on 9474 9055.

Any information you can provide on the dolphin’s condition, behaviour and movement patterns will also be useful.

Importantly, we ask that you do not approach this dolphin, or make any attempt to remove the entanglement. Any such action will only cause stress to the animal and potentially hamper any future intervention efforts.

The information that you provide us can help Parks and Wildlife determine exactly what the situation is.

Thank you for your assistance.

I came across a remarkably unconcerned Quenda a couple of weeks ago. He hung around long enough for a pic. Quite unusual, the few I've ever come across make themselves scarce as soon as you happen upon them.

It was on the PSP between Fiona Stanley Hospital and Cockburn Central.

We used to get blind rabbits on the roads and paths when they were dropping Myxomatosis to control the rabbit populations. And they're just about to release a new calicivirus. So I always watch the furry wildlife if they look bold, make sure that they aren't blind or sick, don't need rescue and reporting.

I see the little tackers around the uni campus a lot, unfortunately some are becoming attracted to the food outlets, no doubt due to being given scraps by well-meaning doofii. Uni educates against this to the extent possible and captures and relocates any that hang around. A couple of times I've also been able to get quite close to them in situations where they appear to be disturbed by earthmoving works - seems that in their disorientation they lose "the gift of fear" (or so say I, the fully credentialled quenda-psych). Poor things :|
