Every little bit helps.

Yes Posted this on Tues in the PSP sticky section

PSP-Cyclists critique of the infrastructure
by wagr1213 » Tue Nov 08, 2011 11:58 pm

Work commenced today on construction of the extension of the PSP from Tonkin Hwy to Bassendean Station.

Im told that the route will swing away from where it currently becomes a section of grey black bitumen following the existing parallelling of the railway closer to the rail reserve down to the Kattaning st xing lights - after xing the intersection it will continue down the Guildford rd side of the rail corridor to the Collier rd crossing which has existing upgraded pedestrian/cycleway gates to enable changing to the western side of the railway.

Machines spent today cutting a route east through the grasses towards Ashfield station on the Guildford rd side.

Not before time!

Yeah, not that impressed til it gets to Midland. The road route from Bayswater - Bassendean isn't the worst - it's once you get past Bassendean where things get more difficult.

What theory are going to do to make crossing Katanning St and Collier Rd will be interesting. These are very busy intersections.

I would have to agree that this stretch is less of a problem than Bassendean to Midland.

The Crossings will be the same as Caledonian Ave Maylands.

That is what I would have expected.

Although I am unsure what else could be done, these are going to be very dangerous intersections as they will be a lot busier than Caledonian Ave.

My understanding is the bike path will head north at Collier Rd and then head east to Basso station along Baltic Court, Prospector Loop and Railway Parade.
Crossing Lord is going to be a stumbling point. The PSP should go under Lord St and via Success Hill Station go over the river along the rail line. At the rate the PSP is getting further east, I will be an old man before it reaches Midland.

I understand Collier Road (Iolanthe St) Crossing to the Guildford Bridge is the next section. Maybe Jim can pop up and give us the latest. :)

Well the PTA required fencework, Gates and associated culvert work is almost finished along this section now so at least some progress is being made.

Regarding the crossings - the same style of PSP crossing as the Caledonian Av arrangement has been employed at Hamilton Rd & Wharf St crossings on the Armadale line PSP
Both of these crossings are quite busy ( possibly much busier than Caledonian Av) and they seem to be working ok, though it has taken a little time for the tin box brigade to adapt to the need to keep the clearway "Clear" but it is improving - You will of course always get the occassional ignoramous that is totally oblivious to the clearway requirements who will block the path.
Not sure why similar requirements havnt been put in place at the Welshpool Rd crossing :? Now there is a crossing which is dangerous to traverse.

As with Caledonian Av, the onus is still on the Cyclist to give way to traffic movements when the flow of traffic is being controlled by the traffic lights, but when the gates are down, it should be just as sweet crossing Collier Rd and Kattanning St, as it is at Caledonian Av, Hamilton Rd & Wharf St :) and lets face it - I think we all try to be travelling thru the crossings when there is a train setting off the gates. 8)

Hi,
I went to Midland the other day and thought that there would be some visible progress on the path. Does anyone know when it will be started / finished?

Riding to a mates place in Basso this afternoon from bayswater , It's an easy ride along the river but hopefully they continue it . I'd love for the path to go all the way up greenmount hill . Somewhere safe to go hillclimbing would be awesome .

"This financial year" is the answer I was given. A good time for the minister would be to open it during bike week, but that is clearly not going to happen at the rate they are progressing.

I did the Swan Railway Heritage Trail (MTB) last week and was riding back to the CBD along the railway and couldn't resist having a go along here.

It was deep soft sand, I lasted about 10 metres. Some MTBer

Drove along Guildford Road yesterday, the path looks so good! The bridge into Guildford itself has quite a way to go though :(

The upstream footpath is going to get a concrete deck instead of the rough timber. It will then become the "temporary" PSP route to Midland.

Someone has been giving them the rev-up, I've seen them working Saturdays to get it done 'in time'.
The path is looking like it'll turn out to be a beauty, well prepared, wide.
