Drove past yesterday and they are indeed replacing the bridge path . They really seem to be going all out to complete it .
Small compromise for the absolute abortion that the freeway south bike path has become . Hopefully it will be sweet when they eventually get around to finishing it .

I haven't been past, could you please tell me if they are replacing the boards with new boards or another material?

I rode Eastbound out along Guildford road about 7:30am Saturday morning on an Audax ride. it looked to me as if they were in the midst of clearing the old timber and laying metal compartments across the still solid support beams to have cement poured. I have seen a few other old timber bridges "retro-fitted" with concrete replacement surfaces like this. Something similar to the Garratt Road bridge pedestrian path - though thankfully wider.

If the short stretch they did at Claremont is anything to go by then it could be some months before you actually legally ride on it! The hotmix was down on that section for ages whilst they got organised with the lining and markings etc with it all roped off.

They have certainly done a pretty good job of the preparation and route considering the old drainage areas they had to fix and fill so it should be a good ride when done. Im sure the motorists will be envious! :P
Im curious to see what they do / how they finish, with the crossing intersections!

The first few hundred metres of hotmix went down today, a small section is rideable, sort of. I guess they want to finish it this financial year?

Yes and the rest of it seems to be going down today - All between Basso and Collier rd was done when I came past and they were 3/4 of the way from the Katanning st Xing towards Collier rd.

Rode that way on my commute to Midvale this morning. Looks like the bitumen is 100% laid, but will wait and see how long until the lines and other work to be done and open. It is frustrating to ride on a temporary soft sand path (next to collier rd) while there is a new path fenced off!!

How Much is the path cost for this segment?
Also I drove past it last week and while the path looks almost complete, the cross overs haven't been touched - I am no civil engineer, but I thought you would at least start to clear this the same time early work would be done on the path

it wasn't open at lunch time, but they were painting the lines on the path.
Any idea when it will no longer be taped off and you can officially ride on it?

no point bagging out Midland, Perth has broken glass everywhere.
Support Container Deposit Legislation and get our roads as clean as Adelaide and South Australia

they keep putting the ropes back up but I rode it today, saw quite a few others doing the same - and they all seemed to be new cyclists too - wobbling about on Huffys :D looks like the extension has created some new riders

Have resisted till today - Yeh not a bad ride !
be better without the closure bunting and ropes

Stopped at the Basso side of the Collier rd crossing pedestrian maze and watched the traffic flows for a while considering when would be safe to cross  this will be a dangerous location - the traffic coming onto Guildford rd from along Collier was fast and hard to see coming. Chicken Run comes to mind!
Take care peoples.

I always thought this would be a dangerous location. Also, having the PSP running straight in front of the Basso TS with peds. walking onto the PSP is just plain dumb. I expect to see the odd bit of glass near the station in the future, but then again, maybe I won't because I'll be riding along the road as per normal, probably much safer!

Have been lurking for some time but thought I would finally join

I've ridden this path a few times now, it's a nice ride from Guildford.
Being pretty new to road cycling it's nice to be able to put in some decent km's and avoid the roads.

Now that the crossovers have been cut away I can't see what they are waiting for?

The ropes have mysteriously fallen down as I rode past the last few times...

Beware accessing the pathway via those service driveways - there is a good 1 to 1.5 inch lip where the concrete meets the road surface. Not a safe entry point whilst travelling "Along" Guildford rd. Ouch!

They made curbing like this on Altone rd between McGuire Ave and Benara Rd when they redid the road area there - they then added bitumen to create ramps onto the driveways to enable a smooth transition, which is good now if you feel the need to escape the road, however it has created another problem in that you have to swerve out into the rd further to avoid the ramps and thus into the path of traffic.

Clever design ??????????
