It appears this is the main section of lights to be installed -most if not all appear in place along the new section.as7431 wrote:Road past on Sat arvo and saw the markings for lights along the old stretch of the path (closer to Reid Hwy underpass). Each one was numbered and the numbered ended at 70. That's a lot of lights

‘The delay in raising the property fence heights came about almost at the end of the construction due to residents contacting the Local Member and a subsequent site meeting with all.
A number of residents complained about the existing freeway verge being about 1 metre above the level of their back yards (hence reducing the effectiveness of the height of their existing fences) – this was a pre-existing situation caused by the 7 year old development construction “benching” into the road reserve. As Vince advises we agreed to install a row of limestone blocks along part of the fence line to overcome this. While the new PSP has only added a minimal amount to the height behind these properties, it would be clear that the privacy and security of these properties is compromised at present. The Contractor has been liaising with City of Stirling to obtain the required approvals, and while not yet finalised it is close. The Contractor also has approval from the relevant property owners for this work to be done.
This work along with the lighting teams require trade utes/vehicles to be present along the path, otherwise workers would have to walk long distances to access materials and tools ie the delay in opening would be much longer. While we are very aware of the desire of the cycling fraternity to be allowed onto this PSP, we are also aware of an obligation we have to the local residents to ensure their privacy and security is maintained. MRWA are working closely with the Contractor to ensure the fence works are completed so that this project can be handed over the pedestrians and cyclists.
Yes there has been some days when work has not been consistent along the path, but to open one day and closed the next to open the next etc would create even more complaints and look even more inappropriate. Also OH&S Laws do not permit such mixing of work and path users.

We are all keen to see the opening of the new section of path along the Mitchell Freeway between Erindale and Balcatta Roads. Main Roads Western Australia advise that work is almost finished with minor lighting and fencing yet to be completed. Stand by! #notlongnow #llovetheride
Wonder which group is getting the correct information?
In my opinion, a '7 year old development construction "breaching" into the road reserve' should have been resolved 6.75 years ago.

So does this mean that when these residents built their houses, they benched into the road reserve, and now a legitimate use is made of the road reserve its someone else's responsibility to fix it up?CycleSnail wrote:....the existing freeway verge being about 1 metre above the level of their back yards (hence reducing the effectiveness of the height of their existing fences) – this was a pre-existing situation caused by the 7 year old development construction “benching” into the road reserve. ...

Seems no one had the "you know what's" to take on the developer at the time of them stealing the land and so now it is up to the tax payer to fix the problem. I wonder if there is a statute of limitations on such things. If there is, perhaps I can just move my fence a bit and take the extra (council owned) land next to my property. Then after a numeber of years, it becomes mineredned wrote:So does this mean that when these residents built their houses, they benched into the road reserve, and now a legitimate use is made of the road reserve its someone else's responsibility to fix it up?CycleSnail wrote:....the existing freeway verge being about 1 metre above the level of their back yards (hence reducing the effectiveness of the height of their existing fences) – this was a pre-existing situation caused by the 7 year old development construction “benching” into the road reserve. ...

What it does mean is that when the plot was levelled it was levelled to the boundary leaving a small step at the boundary.
The problem is that this has now been compounded by building a path, with public access, very close to the boundary and actually elevating the path above the existing ground level. The combination of public access and the raised path are what has adversely affected the adjacent properties and necessitated the refencing.

It's not the work that takes the time, it's getting QA sign off on the paperwork afterwards.CXCommuter wrote:Still waiting for the opening time- how long does it take to install fences
Can't take the fences down until the certificate of completion is issued.

The new estate in this area was started developing after the PSP development, and these lots are now available to purchase. This including earth works, retaining walls, roads, paths, water, gas, electricity, phones, etc.
It should not take this long to build this PSP, or get what ever approval/set back through.
It will be interesting to see how long the new Hway overpass takes to build.

I find it difficult to believe that Main Roads has any real QA system in placeThoglette wrote:It's not the work that takes the time, it's getting QA sign off on the paperwork afterwards.CXCommuter wrote:Still waiting for the opening time- how long does it take to install fences

12 months later, the bypass is opened.
Should MainRoads be bench marking these types of developments to see if other States/Countries do better, or is this the 'norm'?
Looking forward to riding through at 7am where I hope it will be open. But will be prepared to take Gribble Rd if it is not.
