Thanks for the info, looking forward to the Bike Hike. Hope to see you there.bradwoodbr wrote:Hi Bartek,
It will be great to see your Velo in the Freeway Bike Hike. Here is my suggestion for getting around the detour.
Exit the Narrows Bridge and ride up Mill Point Road and onto Labouchere road past the zoo etc.
Just past the South Tce lights turn right into Comer or Eric Streets.
There is an overpass at the end of Comer for access to the Freeway PSP.
If you ride down Eric turn left onto Melville Parade. Ride to the Thelma Street intersection and take the overpass the to the PSP.
I am suggesting Eric to Thelma St overpass as it may be more negotiable in a velo than Preston or Cale street.
I would avoid Preston Street due to a high level of traffic.
Good luck on the Bike Hike

They are approaching the golf club to ask for the steel barrier to be raised. Also investigating replacing with a bollard to deter vehicles. Third option is to raise it during peak periods but this is not really a solution.

I mostly have faith that others are open to suggestions and reason. (I'm a glass half full sorta person.)stealthbike wrote:Just spoke with the project community liaison officer. An electronic warning sign for motorists exiting the freeway at South Terrace will be installed. This will help.

all sorts of stupid antics - boxing in cars on all sides, filtering down the middle of the two lanes to get up to the front (and then being stuck between cars taking off when the lights changed), riding like headless chickens all over the 2 lanes where labouchere rd begins, riding all over the 2 lanes without looking or indicating - thankfully the bloke going straight in his car wasn't impatient and just dealt with it.
couldn't get away from it soon enough.

I was behind a group of about 12 taking both lanes from the zoo all the way to the MillPoint Rd lights.

I know how you feel. On my normal commute I often encounter other cyclists who prefer to run reds and/or ride down the wrong side of the road to get around stationary traffic. Rightly or wrongly (absolutely wrongly), their idiotic behaviour reflects on how motorists treat usuglybob wrote:embarrassed to be associated with the majority of riders at the mill point road / freeway exit / labouchere rd intersection today at about 5:30pm.

I'm guessing yes. The associated kiddies 12km ride that went under the Narrows and south along the PSP has been shifted to the Causeway this year.BrownBike wrote:I'm assuming the Dams Challenge people are aware of this? I guess it won't be open again by then

the works are being undertaken between Thelma Street and Narrows.
Does anyone know why the path is now closed from Olives Reserve, and how long this section will be closed ?

Their plans seem to have gone out the window pretty quick. Not only is it 24hr closure, it's been closed for weeks. TBH, it's nearly the same crossing at Cale as it is at Preston, save for the narrowness of the bridge. Melville Pde is good.Overnight closures (8.00 pm to 5.00 am) of the PSP from Cale Street to Preston Street during the first week

As a motorist I am looking forward - NOT! - to the works south of the Roe Freeway entry to the Kwinana Freeway. The will be whole lot longer and more disruptive than the south perth works and detours. And will be good for about five years before the next "improvements" are made.

The rest is a breeze really and a nice change from the confines of the PSP.

Yup. Coming south into oncoming riders, it is totally unworkable for moi. I take Leonora st andColinOldnCranky wrote:That's some steep and curly ride over the Cale Street/Sea Scouts footbridge.
cross the highway at C-Bridge station instead. Not what you might consider ideal either, but a slightly lesser evil.

I have driven past plenty of times and seen no-one there working"While this project will initially require complete closure of the PSP between Cale Street and The Narrows, it will be programmed to allow for staged re-opening and the contractor will be working around-the-clock to minimise disruption to cyclists and pedestrians.
