Market Street Principal Shared Path (PSP) Closure

Postby Aushiker » Thu Mar 13, 2014 10:35 pm

From Main Roads (undated) ..
The shared path that travels behind Perth Arena is currently closed for maintenance between Market Street and Wellington Street. This closure will be in place until further notice whilst Arena conduct building maintenance . Cyclists and Pedestrians can detour via Market Street on to Wellington Street

Feedback from building management at The Arena, it will be closed for a minimum of 8 weeks.

Thanks.

It's hard to believe this is "maintenance" I certainly hope it's not annual!

I was wondering why there was a huge increase in idiots flying around the somewhat blind corner near the blue tennis courts at high speed!!

Market St diversion point this morning - the area around the Perth Arena north-side is still closed, and someone dragged the barriers so they almost block the alternative shared path access:

There was an event this morning on the Perth Arena East side with blow-up things, so maybe they thought it would be a good idea to close the only accessible PSP, without telling anyone.

Perth City Link -where the train lines are now sunk and we are diverted over the top of them - loose electrical cable

I had a couple of spare cable ties, so it looked a lot better when I left.

Both items reported to MainRoads.

The barriers were re-positioned this morning on Market St. There was a massive truck at the PSP crossing which made it interesting peering around it - what happens to not parking 20m away from these types of crossings?

Turning the corner onto the shared path at Wellington St, we then get:

The shared path around the other side is still not accessible.

What type of maintenance must be occurring on the Perth Arena, that requires the full closure of the north PSP, and the close enough to full closure on the shared path on the south side?

PTA closed the PSP at Market St/City West this afternoon. No warnings, path had signs indicating it was closed and pedestrians to use the footpath on the other side of the road.

How hard is it to warn us when the PSP gets closed and to have diversions in place. I asked the traffic person on site who suggested I could go back to Wellington St and continue west that way. If that was the diversion, it would have helped to have signs installed at Wellington St which I had earlier crossed.

The reason for the closure was verbally given as installing new pylons for the railway. So the work was known in advance. But it was OK to close the PSP.

Email sent to Minister Transport and PTA asking why.

Thanks - it's a PITA when they do that.

Because of the location of the eastern closure at the top of the rise it's been a "whoa, Jesse" moment every time it happens.

Even a few cones before the kink would be a nice warning!

I think they've gotten away with it as the previous unmarked, unannounced closures have happened later in evening.

City of Perth is closing Market St this Saturday for resurfacing. Some sections have already been 'levelled'.

If you are a regular rider in this section, the 'ramp' to allow us back onto the shared path has been marked as 'removed'. I personal use this ramp as it provides a better angle for riding onto the shared path, from the south (aka near RAC HQ).

My hope is that the whole crossing is raised, (similar to the crossing near The Arena) giving priority to pedestrian/cyclists. Have asked City of Perth to confirm what is occurring at this location.

I would put my house on this not occurring.
