Good to see City of Perth have come to their senses, and now removing the cobblestone. I contacted them around 5 years ago, asking why this was installed as it was not being maintained with large holes when they come loose.
From City of Perth:
The intersection of James Street and Lake Street in Northbridge has become a hazard as the cobble stones continue to be dislodged by passing vehicles.
As a result the City of Perth has approved their necessary removal and resurfacing of the road.
Work commenced to remove the cobblestones and replace them with coloured asphalt began on Tuesday 4 March 2014.
The removal and resurfacing works will require temporary lane and road closures and the City of Perth has been working closely with Northbridge stakeholders and businesses to ensure the impact of the road works are kept to a minimum.
The cobblestone removal and replacement project in Northbridge is nearing completion and is scheduled to be completed by Monday 31 March 2014 (weather permitting) – approximately two weeks earlier than the original completion date.
The final stage of work will take place between Tuesday 25 March and Saturday 29 March. During this time, James Street (between Parker Street and William Street) and Lake Street (between Francis Street and James Street) will be closed to facilitate asphalting and line marking work.
The James Street/Lake Street roundabout will also be partially closed as per the attached map. Local traffic (including deliveries and couriers) will be permitted through closures and local businesses will continue to operate as usual during this time.
