I took my first full length ride on this shared path, as of Monday with those diversions and this being the advertised route, you've got to question if this new shared path meets the standards of a shared path.

Around the bus depot exit, is there enough width to get two bikes through?

I was the only cyclist on the shared path, the rest on the road. Next Monday, I'll be on the road as well.

You can build it, but then if we don't use it, is this really a cycling infrastructure?

Although the MainRoads website states that the Mounts Bay Road shared path is open this weekend, it's actually closed. So if you wish to cycle along the north side of the river the detour is along St. Georges Terrace along with all of the other traffic.
I'm always amazed by how dangerous my cycle route gets, and yet I still cycle.

Riding home after the Crits this afternoon...had the intention to head from Esplanade to UWA, then back through Kings Park.

Mounts Bay Road was closed today between Mill and William due to some big crane some work, paths closed too. No signage pointing out a detour etc. Lots of confused people.

Let's make a detour for cyclists, then close that. Massive fail.

Plus City of Perth decided that Sunday would be a good day to change over their promotional flags in the centre of the Terrace so all the traffic on the Terrace, plus the diverted Mounts Bay Road traffic, had to change lanes into the bus lane to go around their cherry picker when it was between Barrack St and William St.

Mounts Bay Road is scheduled to be closed again on 4th April, so just assume it will also be the shared path.

This new shared path would have to be one of my largest disappointments, and have provided to MRA several examples how it should be improved, MRA are not responsible for this shared path, but they are responsible for the diversion which in my opinion should not have occurred until these issues were addressed.

There is f-all that can be done now as the original path on William St has been demolished so until a new one is implemented (2 months away) slow down, avoid the obstacles, and take particular care at the William St/The Esplanade corner where 100's of train users pour out of the station. I've seen a couple of close calls as the timing on these lights is f-ed and you get pedestrians running to get over this intersection, and cyclists doing the same.

Slow down and enjoy the ride in this area.

According to the MainRoads website Mounts Bay Road and the shared path are closed from 12pm this Saturday until 6am on Easter Monday. The detour is via St. Georges Terrace.
I would love there to be a shared path detour, but I'm steeling myself for mixing with the traffic. Maybe I should hire a fixie for the weekend to get into the true, dicing with death, bike-courier mentality.

It shouldn't be closed over the Easter weekend as the crane was removed last week. Easter was just a backup in case they didn't finish. They have the new pedestrian bridge to put up the weekend after Easter, so the shared path will be closed then. I believe that the diversion route is still to be confirmed.

Mounts Bay Road will be closed between Mill St and William St from 6am on Saturday 23 to 2am on Sunday 24 May 2015, to facilitate crane lifts by Brookfield Multiplex.

There will be no pedestrian and cyclist access through this section of Mounts Bay Road during the closure time.

Is the the same work? Oversize movement to the Perth CBD
A 50 m long bridge beam will be escorted around Perth to the CBD during the early hours of Saturday morning. The escorted movement will depart from Christable Way, Landsdale at 3.00 am and is anticipated to arrive at Mounts Bay Road, Perth around 9.00 am.

Hope these works are being co-ordinated or the same thing , otherwise Mounts Bay Rd is going to be a little crowded tomorrow morning.

It didn't happen!!!! They couldn't get the bridge to site (I seem to recall a Channel 7 release on this on Sunday) and so they'll have to come back and have another go. So expect even more disruption on the shared path!

Update from MRA
The current diversion for the Riverside Drive shared path will be extended until mid-August 2015.
•The shared path will remain closed between The Narrows Bridge and The Esplanade.
•The closure will facilitate the upgrade of essential service infrastructure and reconstruction of the William Street verge.
•Cyclists and pedestrians will be detoured via Mounts Bay Road to ensure the safety of all road users.

We get to enjoy mounts bay Rd for another 6 weeks. Riverside Drive was initially scheduled to be reopened June 2015.

And just to make it interesting, a full width section of the shared path next to the bus station was unavailable this evening. You had to walk the bikes around it unless you had a MTB and enjoy the sand.

Talk to Watercorp - and ask them for a copy of their Obstruction Permit. It seems ridiculous that a brand new section of shared path should be ripped up so soon after opening. Watercorp knew about this.

Update from MRA:
The current diversion for the Riverside Drive shared path will be extended until late-September 2015.

So, starting with mid-June, which then gets changed to mid-August, and now late-September, just a tad overrun. I would be less annoyed if we had been updated, as I had to follow up on Friday indicating the promised date had lapsed, and when would the new estimate be. No response to my email, just the website gets updated.

Enjoy this diversion for another 6weeks.

You call it a diversion. I refer to it as a new route.

I don't know why they don't just say mid-December, when the whole road infrastructure is due for completion!

As tomorrow is 1st October, this diversion may be extended again. I did contact MRA last week asking if they will meet the multiple revised finish date of the diversion, and response was that it would be highly unlikely. At the same time I did also let them know someone had again pulled up a section of the diversion in front of the bus depot, but they indicated they were not responsible for what occurs on the diversion, but would pass on the details to City of Perth/MainRoads - no response from either at this time who decided to once again approve works on our diversion.

So once again, enjoy the diversion for another X weeks.

MRA has updated their site indicating:
March to mid-December 2015
The current diversion for the Riverside Drive shared path will be extended until mid-December 2015.
The shared path will remain closed between The Narrows Bridge and The Esplanade.
The closure will facilitate the upgrade of essential service infrastructure and reconstruction of the William Street verge.
Cyclists and pedestrians will be detoured via Mounts Bay Road to ensure the safety of all road users.

So defiantly the diversion is still in place.

So, City of Perth then installs fencing and signage indicating:
Planting in Progress
16-Nov to 18 Dec
Please ride carefully and expect delays

Is anyone coordinating this diversion, or are they just deliberately annoying cyclists?

Their haven't been any plants since Apr-2014 when initial earth works occurred for the Mounts Bay Road project. But they are critical now when we are still riding through the diversion because of Elizabeth Quay.

So as usual, ride carefully.

In all fairness to CoP, ALL local councils try to go out of their way to inconvenience all road users as much as possible, not just cyclists. Those road works on two feeder roads that needed to happen 10 years ago all have to happen all at the same time NOW!

MRA have updated their website to indicate:
Diversion in place until 29 January 2016
The current diversion for the Riverside Drive shared path will be in place until 29 January 2016.

Hopefully the last date movement as the Premier has also been reported as:
West Australians and visitors will be treated to a spectacular display of lasers, lights and water fountains when Elizabeth Quay opens to the public on Friday 29 January 2016.

The free show will light up the inlet at 8pm, 9pm and 10pm to coincide with a weekend of entertainment and performances from the hugely successful Fringe World Festival.

Onsite today to mark the completion of the pedestrian and cyclist bridge, Premier Colin Barnett said the show would create a stunning outdoor display that showcased the inlet as the heart of the Elizabeth Quay development

Some moron has recently installed another sign at head height in the pinch point. Say What is wrong with these idiots?
Extremely dangerous and substandard piece of infrastructure thanks to Main Roads and CoP.

For those using this section of Mounts Bay Road due to the ongoing diversion for Elizabeth Quay, some organisation once again, decided to pull up a section of the PSP near the freeway, leaving it unsigned and incomplete (ie bumps, rammed earth etc). Really, this had to be done now, when this diversion will be less used in a weeks time when Elizabeth Quay opens up.
