I take that route to and fro work every day on my bike, wondering what exactly happened.
I wonder if he was turning right, heading north on to Patterson Rd from Ennis Ave, and either the cyclist, or motorist heading north on Patterson Rd ran the light?
Tragic either way - and the second of two fatalities on the road this morning.

Terrible news.
I have friends who ride that route every morning plus you see the regulars.
That intersection is pretty safe if all party's exercise care.

What I think is the bike (bottom left) is a point about 40m north of where Ennis Ave hits Patterson if that helps. (The image is shot from the north-west.)BiciBoy wrote:I take that route to and fro work every day on my bike, wondering what exactly happened.

I was talking to a mate at his bike store in Rockingham on Friday - he was told that a car ran the lights - not sure which lights, the Patterson or Ennis ones, but it's sad either way.

Cheers Andrew.
The thing that really got to me about this accident was the media coverage. That day the news had a huge focus on the killed motorcyclist....."and in other news a cyclist was killed in Rockingham" - to me this media coverage really summed up the attitude towards cyclists and the value of our life compared to other road users.

I for one was drawn to the motor bike accident more than that of the cyclist. And I doubt that a case can be made that I undervalue the lives of cyclists.88mph wrote:Cheers Andrew.

The relative billing of those particular stories has nothing to do with different values of pedal cyclists compared to motor cyclists. Why are we so eager to find conspiracies and hidden meanings?
For one thing the motor bike accident involved an extremely unlikely set of circumstances - Car broke down, ute hit it and spun out across multiple lanes, bike immediately hit car with rider being thrown, following truck immediately rolled over him. If that is not enough then we can add to that the driver running across three lanes of a busy freeway to a cop who just happened to be present at that time. Serendipity in the extreme and likely far more gorey.
The cycle death however was just more of the same that we and the listening public have heard before and will, unfortunately, hear again and again. And the facts were also less apparent.
(If you want to see such differences in how we value life then we need look no further than ourselves and how we react to overseas disasters, deaths and cruelty in third world countries, treatment of refugees and so forth. mea culpa.)
