2013-2014 Perth Bicycle Network Local Government Grants

Postby rolandp » Sun Apr 27, 2014 11:29 am

From Department of Transport
Successful grant applications in the 2013-14 PBN Grants program have been awarded.

A total of 31 projects (19 Local Governments) will be undertaken in the $1.9m program.
•Awarded project details can be downloaded below.

The WABN Plan proposed an increase from $1m to $2m per year in allocated funding to the PBN Grants Program. $100k has already been allocated towards a ‘Connecting Schools’ initiative.
As per previous years, these grants have been manually uploaded onto Google Maps, so you can see where the grants have been awarded.

Again, I need your help to determine if the grant projects have been completed or if there are any comments on the projects. See previous years:
2012/13 Local Government Grants
2011/12 Local Government Grants
2010/11 Local Government Grants
2009/10 Local Government Grants

Note, for 2014/15, the available funds drop from $2.00m per year, to $1.33m, so it is important that the 2013/14 projects are completed.

Please let me know if you are aware of any of the 2013/14 projects which have been completed, and I will update the Google Map.

Really don't see the logic at all behind this one. Is it just to link the train station and the beach?
I don't know anybody who uses that road while everybody uses North or Grant St.
Perhaps extending the railway line psp from Grant to Forrest would make sense.

I think that it is more for pedestrians than cyclists

Claygate Way Kingsley path is complete and has been for a couple of months.

It's not bad...I think it's too close to Hepburn rd, at least for the kids to head West. There is more space but it would have meant clearing vegetation. The dust has also been a problem with dirt fill left to settle and the path being so close to the road. I also thought there was too much fill and that it would settle on the path. Hasn't been a problem although haven't been past since the rain set in.

I'll try to remember to take a couple of photos to put up

The City of Victoria Park Bishopgate St Bicycle Lane works seem to be underway. Unfortunately they had a road closure at the corner of Bishopgate and Rutland Ave this morning with no detour signage for northbound cyclists who get onto Rutland Ave via the Roberts St underpass.

Hi Roland

Using the power of Nearmap, I can help you out:

Armadale Road Shared Path: Seventh Road to 200m west of Seville Drive (south side): Constructed October 2013.

Ranford Road Shared Path, Harrisdale: Wright Road to Southern River Road (south side): Completed by end of October 2013.

Swan River Foreshore Shared Path, Ascot. Locock Street to boardwalk bridge near Kanowna Road: Constructed Nov/Dec 2013.

Kalinda Drive Shared Path, City Beach. Kalari Drive to The Boulevard (east side): Not commenced as at 28/3/14.

Port Beach Road Shared Path, North Fremantle. Port Beach Car Park to south of Walter Place (west side): Completed by Dec 2013.

Lefroy Road Bicycle Lanes, Samson. 80m west of Carrington Street to Rennie Crescent (both sides)" Not commenced as at 28/3/14. Drove past this one in late April and didn't see any works either.

Lachlan Road Shared Path, Thornlie. Ovens Road to Hume Road (west side): Completed by end of Oct 2013.

Mandurah Road Shared Path, Mandurah: Murdoch Drive to Amazon Drive (east side): Almost complete as at 28/3/14.

Burke Drive Shared Path, Attadale. Haig Road to Lentona Street (north side): Not commenced as at 28/3/14.

McNeil Street Shared Path, Peppermint Grove. Stirling Highway to View Street (south side): Completed by end of Oct 2013.

Paterson Street Shared Path, Mundijong. Richardson Street to Kiernan Street (east side): Not commenced as at 24/2/13.

Davilak Street Shared Path, Manning. Davilak Street cul-de-sac to Ley Street (north side): Not commenced as at 28/3/14.

Mill Point Road Shared Path, South Perth. Freeway off-ramp to Mill Point Close (north side): Not commenced as at 28/3/14. By the way, your map marker is in the wrong post - this path is from the end of the northbound off-ramp, under the bridge to Mill Point Close.

Kent Street Bicycle Lanes, Victoria Park. Berwick Street to Albany Highway (both sides): Completed March 2014.

Palmerston Street Bicycle Lanes, North Perth. Randell Street to Stuart Street (both sides): In Progress. The kerb adjustments were underway through April. Haven't been past in a few weeks to see if any further progress has been made.

Beatty Park Shared Path, North Perth. Farr Avenue to Vincent Street: Completed March 2014.

Connolly Drive Shared Path, Clarkson. Walyunga Boulevard to Danaher Mews: In progress as at 15/3/14.

There is already a bike lane in this location and a footpath on the south side of the road? I guess having a shared path will mean pedestrians are in the right when they walk in the bike lane.

I am assuming that Davilak Street is being cut at the Ley Street roundabout and a shared path will be put in to maintain the connection for cyclists.

The Fremantle BUG has added the Fremantle grants to our project monitoring program so hopefully will have updates soon.

Totally agree, a disgraceful waste of money.

North or Grant St need the work - I see they are making the road wider along Curtin Ave ATM, what are the chances its a better bike path?

As I understand it do not expect anything in terms of PSP before at least 2016 heading south from Grant Street. If you are not happy with that I suggest you write to the Minister of Transport asking why no progress. Unless people start doing this nothing is going to happen. You could also ask the Member for Cottesloe for an explanation.

Roland you can tick of the City of Fremantle grant for the design of a section of the PSP in North Fremantle. Phil Adams from the City of Fremantle was at the meeting so got the full update on the design report which as been finalised.

I believe the City of Fremantle has now ticked off all its grants.

Just don't expect a response! Cullin Colin's finding himself a bit under the pump these days  oops ... must refrain from political commentary

Regarding the Forrest St path, I agree, on the face of it it does seem a waste and there has been whinging in the local press about it's appearance. The money may well have been spent better elsewhere but it does connect the Cottesloe shopping precinct, Cottesloe Station and Curtin Avenue directly to Cottesloe Beach. Forrest St is lightly trafficked but the footpath in summer was solid with peds. I guess they needed to widen it to qualify it as a PSP?

Nearmap is awesome isn't it? I loved it better when it was free! I just stumped up $600 for one year one user WA only views. Saves me a lot of driving and shortens a lot of conversations though. A lot of boring conversations...

Thanks all, in particular to wellington_street, for providing updates, and apologies for not responding earlier.

The score board sits at:
Complete $991,643 (16 projects)
Incomplete/Not Started $719,465 (6 projects)
Unknown $96,895 (5 projects)
In Progress $107,824 (3 projects)

I followed up on "City Of Subiaco - Bike Plan" - was expected to be presented to Council Feb-2014, but couldn't locate this in the minutes.

I will also be contacting City of Joondalup in relation to their three 'completed' projects, sample below of Ocean Reef Road newly installed shared path:

Just need time to swing by Claygate Way as this is the only one I haven't personally seen. Cherrycam, if it looks like the above, can you get come photos.

Sand on the path yes. No signs in the middle and not quite that close to the road though. I have either been going past in the dark or in a hurry and haven't had time to take photos. Will try to in the next couple days.

Is that a white diamond painted around the sign?

I would be quite interested to know why the City of Joondalup decided it was acceptable to build a new path through an existing sign rather than doing the sensible thing of realigning the path about 1m back from the kerb
