PSP detour at Beeliar Drv/Cockburn Central
Postby just4tehhalibut » Sat May 24, 2014 9:46 pm
I've checked a few websites, can't find anything about an end date for this detour. Any idea?

I wonder what all the local motorbikes and scooters will now do with the path closure? Can't picture a trailbiker patiently waiting at the pedestrian signalled crossings up top, there's one who regularly crosses Thomas Rd from the PSP in the mornings at full pelt, no stopping for pressing buttons to cross, no regard for traffic, no lights. Helter skelter.
If no one knows more about this detour I'll email CoC on Monday.
Edit: Actually, if EVERYONE emails CoC via Customer@cockburn.wa.gov.au then that might send a message that this change hasn't been well explained.

Hopefully they restore those fences soon, in some sections of the freeway that's all that stops the straying traffic.

They re-opened the portion on the south side of Beeliar on Friday, so at least we don't have to ride that short detour anymore.WarbyD wrote:Such a fun little detour.. that clay material they've used gets verrrrry slippery in the wet.
And yeah, it looks like they're quite close to having the path finished, so hopefully it will open soon. More than likely, they'll finish the path, then keep it all closed up for a few more weeks while they finish the road, just to taunt us.

came through this evening and the path is technically "open". North side there is a chevron sign in the middle of the path, but no barrier either side. at the south end it is clear. I rode through it and saw a cyclist coming the other way. There was still someone crossing at the lights, but for me I'm using the underpass nowWarbyD wrote:Heh Robinho, I had the same thought this morning..

Now we just need a resurface and nice shoulder along Armadale Rd to Warton Rd

Black bitumen was down today, nice and smooth. I go that way on my return leg, got a new favourite way to the PSP now thanks to the new path along North Lake rd and down via Bibra lake. Nice n quiet and nice bush scenery around bibra lakeJBark wrote:It's completely open this morning, from what I can tell. All the detour signs are gone, and they've put a "ROUGH PATH" sign up. Colour me shocked to see something path related actually reopened on time!

As to the new paths Baalzamon refers to along North Lake Rd they're a bit daft as well. The existing path betwwen Discovery and Bibra Drives is on the eastbound side of the road and separated from the road until after it comes down the hill, it then meets the shoulder and apart from being a different colour there is no demarcation to separate it from the breakdown lane. If you want to ride west it looks like you are riding the wrong way down the highway into oncoming tradie traffic. And the path gets used as a carpark because there is no physical barrier, meaning that sometimes you really have to swing out into oncoming traffic. Further up the hill on the new section they haven't yet installed any entry ramps. It all looks iike it is waiting for the new financial year. Crazy that a whole lot of new paths started being built out that way just before the EOFY and not polished.

Yes I don't like that section where it's hard up against the road with no kerb splitting it up. I've ridden the other way and I didn't like it at all. I bet the drivers didn't either with my Luxos going
