PSP: Bassendean to Success Hill

Postby jcdewit » Mon Aug 04, 2014 1:05 pm

The PSP to Success Hill is taking shape. Here are some piccies I took this morning. (And what a glorious morning for a ride it was!)

So most of the section has now a black top. Next week it should be ready up to Lord street. Then another month and the underpass to Success Hill station is finished.
This photo is from last Friday:

I have been waiting for this, I live in Sucess Hill. I had a big stack over 1 year and a half ago , 5 weeks off work. Was trying to cross lord st at 5.00 at night, got off line and a did a face dive into the Tarmac on Anzac tec close to the station.

First part is just about there, I used it last week on a few occasions "Smooth As :D :D ". It will be even better when the second part (the underpass) is finished, Now if they could smooth the great eastern highway part  (opposite Guildford Grammar) I would use the road bike more often ! Until them I will either go on the road for that part or use the mountain bike :)

It is my understanding that the path has been officially opened today :-)

I rode out that way on Sunday as I'd never been in that direction before. Made the mistake of continuing through to guildford at the end of the path. Big mistake. 2 punctures in 2km meant I had a walk, a train ride (Success Hill doesn't take cash by the way so thanks to the guy who swapped $5 for the use of his card), then a taxi ride home. Assuming I don't need a new tire (I've not yet plucked up the courage to look!!), it will be about a $40 ride and I didn't even get an opportunity to stop at Sherbet for cake on the way home which would have been cheaper as not even I can eat that much cake!!

But Moo, you wouldn't have this memory which will last you for the rest of your life.

Come on Eastern guys, if there are no photos of the new path, it hasn't happened.

So where does it go after this? Does it take you to the old path across Guildford bridge?
James St is pretty dodgy IMO and the footpath is not really a PSP.

Over the next six months or so the path to the Guildford Bridge should get cleaned up, with a bit of luck

Memory?! It's still so raw I haven't even fixed that second puncture!! I cheated and swapped to a different wheel set. Now that is lazy!!

Agree with all here though; it's a lovely path. Just not long enough ;)

I am back from a rather long overseas trip and rode it today. It's really great! (especially as I had a strong sea breeze to push me along, he he).

The connection with Midland is still patchy. I cross the train lines at Success Hill overpass and then the Swann bridge. It would be great if they just fixed some rafters next to the train line so you could cycle straight across the river.

Through Guildford is OK, but the Great Eastern to Midland is a bit iffy. Today two cars decided that they could overtake me without changing lanes. That was pretty close in both cases.

It seems to be in the planning to make a new shared path between Guildford and Midland, but with the budget problems the government will face the coming years, it might take a while.

Hi I just live down the street from the new underpass. I have been off work with a back problem but managed to get Mtb out and try the path out, it's great no more crossing Lord St.

This new path is brilliant.
I noticed today that there is a sign stating 5km to midland just before the Lord St underpass.
What happens after Guildford?
Are you on a cycle lane on the Great Eastern or footpath or what?
This would be a great way to get to the hills.

At this stage your best getting off the PSP at lord street, as its really sightseeing footpath from lord to the guildford bridge. From Guildford bridge you can if you try very hard get to Midland on footpaths but no use for roadies etc.
