Munda Biddi Trail + Chainsaw + Bridge

Just when you think you have seen it all....... On Saturday a rider on the Munda Biddi Trail reported damage to a bridge south of Stirling Dam. When the local ranger went to investigate, this is what he found (see pics). Someone has driven thier 4x4 along the trail, gotten bogged, then taken a chainsaw to the bridge to gain some timber to get themselves out. This has left a large hole in the middle of the bridge. The bridge has been taped off and you can get around - repairs are planned for ASAP. If you are heading out on the trail take care on the section between Yarri Campsite and Tallanalla near 8 Mile Form. If anyone can help us track down the culprits....we would be very keen to hear from you!

They were in a forest. A forest full of trees. And they cut up the bridge instead of a tree....

You think they'd stoop so low as to put raw wood under the wheels of their X5 when there's this lovely dressed hardwood there for the taking. It's not like anybody was inconvenienced.

Well, nobody worth speaking of. :(

I have to admit laughing at the sheer idiocy of this  Surrounded by trees (surely some of it fallen already?) but let's cut up a bridge ffs....

My first thought on seeing that photo is an environmentalist type that has issues with mountain bikers in the forest.

They have desecrated a man made structure in the forest, i think people are missing the point here.

My first thought as well. Looks like a man trap.

There are easier ways to deter people from using a forest trail. This hole is quite obviously intentional and sends a message.

I'm on a MTB forum which has additional photos. Adjacent to the bridge there's a crossing where the wood was used to get out a stuck 4WD. It was nothing about sending a message to riders, just some idiot who got bogged and came up with a dumb solution.

He could have been doing both un-bogging his 4x4 and setting a man-trap.
