Source: WATodayA WA cycling group wants the State Government to significantly step-up investment in safe cycling infrastructure in the wake of recent deaths.
Bicycle Transport Alliance chief executive Heinrich Benz, a former Bassendean councillor, said the government fails to accomodate all road users.
"Until our political leaders recognise cycling as a legitimate transport option and invest in well designed, comprehensive cycling infrastructure, I'm sad to say it's highly likely that more riders will die on our streets," he said.
"This isn't an issue that's going to go away and, the longer our politicians wait to do something, the harder it will become.
"Instead of pouring more and more transport dollars into costly road projects that only serve to encourage more car use, our leaders need to reprioritise spending toward other transport options, including bikes."
