photo shows car (and bike) on the wrong side of the road, lucky no one was coming from the other direction:
the drive must have been really keen to get his message across
and in front of the police station too. unbelievable

Say What? "Charges likely pending" . The driver tried to kill the cyclist with two detectives witnessing the incident and that's the best the authorities could do? The law is totally effed up.Fortunately for Mr Holland, the incident was witnessed by two detectives outside the Perth Police Station, known as Curtin House, who came to his aid.
Police later confirmed the driver of the red Mazda had been arrested, with charges likely pending.

What do you expect them to say?Ross wrote:Say What? "Charges likely pending" . The driver has been arrested and the police will be collating witness statements and making sure they have everything in order before charges are laid.
If they acted too quickly and made mistakes then there would be more chance of the driver getting off on a technicality and no one wants that to happen.
Hope all three of this morning's injured cyclists recover well.

Seriously though I am pleased that the rider avoided serious injury. I bet the defence lawyer will mention that the bike is unroadworthy. It will be a shame if this affects the outcome of the case, as it is irrelevant.

How many times are we going to have this line trotted out. It was stale five years ago and it's stale this year.roller wrote:No doubt the driver can expect a VERY hard slap on the wrist coming their way.
I get angry with some sentencing too. But piddling sentences are nowhere near a certainty despite too many posting as though it is.
Let's wait until we KNOW something.
In the meantime if you really want a case showing the unfairness of the system you need look no further than the case of Eugene McGee, a well connected lawyer that was protected by the police, prosecuters, magistrates and the peak legal body after killing a rider and then hiding himself away with help for many hours, avoiding a breath test and still holding his license to practice. He copped a short license suspension and a fine that even impoverished retired public servant like me could pay without losing any sleep.

The driver of the car must definitely be charged, but it goes to show that the cyclist should never provoke any drivers as we do not know what state of mind they are in. We have no protection from a car trying to mow you down.

And be permanently banned from driving.dmwill wrote:Anyone who lines their car up to take down a cyclist needs a psych assessment IMO.
At first I thought it was going to be a young male hothead. Amazing to hear a 54 year old man!
Should know better.

Huh, all reports I read say the bonnet was hit, nothing about smashed windscreens, Please tell...franjae wrote:If Mr Holland chased you down and hit your car hard enough to break the windscreen, what would you do? You are unlikely to see him again and you'll have to fix the windscreen yourself, and you are not in a very good mood, and it is hot.....

One of the video news reports shows a closeup of the car windscreen smashed at the top of the passenger side. It looks like it could have happened from punching it pretty hard.

I once spent a very enjoyable 20 minutes watching a bloke try and smash a side window on his car to retrieve the keys he had locked inside. It took all his effort with a house brick to finally get in, so I doubt someone could punch a window out. I suspect the car going over the bike may have caused the window to break.lard wrote:One of the video news reports shows a closeup of the car windscreen smashed at the top of the passenger side.
