Chased down by a fox!

Postby worzel » Tue Jan 13, 2015 11:19 am

You may have read in the wildlife thread that a fox ran across my path yesterday morning, just north of the new Gribble Road by-pass - cute. Well this morning he ran across the front of me the opposite direction (west to east) - I smiled to myself as I thought of the irony that a fox was playing chicken. I wasn't laughing 5 seconds later when he ran after me trying to grab my ankle! I don't know how close he got but I could hear him breathing.

Mr and Mrs Fox must have a lair nearby- have seen them a few times over the past couple of years, including once in the dark when he/she leapt up in fright alongside the PSP when I passed by - needed new lycra after that. Must have a hungry litter nearby to be that aggressive

I have heard some rustling in the bushes the last few mornings coming on to the PSP in that area from the freeway overpass Reid Hwy.
Will make sure my sprinting legs are at the ready tomorrow morning. I find a quick squirt with water works great for chasing dogs (not sure about foxes though), the shock of the water to the face slows them momentarily allowing an easier getaway

Unlike me to get back OT - apologies - but has this been reported to rangers? Foxes don't belong here and if getting this aggressive, it could be nasty...especially if it is a zombie fox.

Done, though I didn't mention it being a zombie.

Shame. Rangers would have loved the challenge I'm sure ;)

only reason a fox would chase you is because it would have babies (kits) nearby. Otherwise they would run away from you. Definitely report it and keep a watchful eye when riding past this spot.

for whatever reason i hope its just animals in the bushes. lately in the evenings i would generally get spooked by some ruffling all of a sudden passing some bushes. felt like someone was going to jump out and deck me and rob me or even worse some nut decides to jump infront of me.

Same feeling mid winter in the dark and something "large" rustles in the bushes, feels like a sign is needed:

Very much along my lines of initial thought. I thought OP had to be prey somehow.

If you really want to up your cardio workout - do a few laps of the Cannington Greyhound track in the same slippers.

Fox spotted at the Gribble Rd location this morning on the commute in. He was behind the wire fence.

I reported it to City of Stirling when I was chased down a couple of weeks ago and they came back to me last week to say they would make arrangements for trapping it/them. But while I did not see it myself this morning there was a very worried looking guy stopped facing north and shouting warnings to everyone passing so I guess it must of had a go for him.

A work colleague reported they were chased pretty good this morning. Another work colleague reported it again to the council today, they were told to call Dept of Parks and Wildlife instead, they were then told to contact Dept of Agriculture who seemed to be aware of the problem.

I sent a follow up email to City of Stirling yesterday and was told mine was the third report but the reserve actually belongs to Main Roads so they had passed it on to them and " [name], their Environmental Officer, and he will be taking immediate action"

Amusing thread :) I actually live nearby and keep a lookout whilst riding through the area. Are the sightings just past (northbound ) the intersection where the new path meets the old path- t-junction?. Keen to see it :)
