For those of you mtb'ers who aren't competing in the Dwellie, this event provides a great opportunity to take in some different tracks, test your riding skills and legs, and engage your brain at the same time. (Not sure about suitability for CX on this one...).
Mountain bike orienteering is navigating between checkpoints using a map and compass in the fastest time possible or at a more social pace.
You can come either for some fast racing against the clock (with no rider hold ups) or else take a more leisurely ride through the bush tracks while solving the navigational riddle.
This is the second event of the 2015 mtbo (6 race) state series.
Courses: Short (~7 kms straight line, 10kms actual riding) - Map provided
Medium (~13 kms straight line, 20 kms actual riding) - Map provided
Long (~20 kms straight line, around 30 kms actual riding) - Map provided
Entry costs $10 for OAWA members or $20 for non-members
Bring: Sportident electronic tag (for registering controls) and mapboards if you have them (but both of these are also available for hire - and will be free for non-members on the day with deposit - bring some gaffa tape to protect your handlebars), bike, sunscreen and water.
Registration: Starts: 9:00 am
Course times: opens 9:30 am and closes at 1:00 pm
To get there: From the Pickering Brook General Store (corner of Canning Rd & Pickering Brook Rd), head east on Pickering Brook Rd past the golf course. Turn right onto Carinyah Rd. This becomes gravel after a short while. Keep right where Carinyah Rd becomes Westons Rd and follow signs to assembly, which is approx. 6.5km from the PBGS
