Hi All
I'm new to cycling and still building up my confidence.
Would anyone have any advice on clubs for beginners or is anyone here looking for a cycling buddy near the city?
Any suggestions for routes in or around the metro area? My longest distance on the MTB so far has been 26km.
I have a Trek 3800 mtb but am considering getting a road bike.
Thanks
J

Where abouts in perth are you NewRider? There are a lot of shop rides that cater for new riders, and there are a lot of people who meet up to ride because they don't want a shop ride or think they are too fast.
So tell us more about yourself. Area, what sort of average speed? Do you ride your mob on the road or trails? Weekends or weekdays? Are you a tea or coffee person...
Welcome by the way

I don't do group rides in general, but just about all shops do them. Some are a bit fussy and you have to have drop bars, i am sure you can find one for MTB.
I just ride all over, around the river loops are lovely in the mornings, did one on NYD, 30+ clicks. Why i don't like group riding is you need to trust the riders around you absolutely to warn you of what is ahead and shop rides, the people can vary dramatically, making it a bit off putting. But i say give it a try, see if you like it or not.

I ride in groups and also solo ... each has their advantages. With groups, you are placing an enormous amount of trust in your fellow riders.

You probably wouldn't be welcome in many group rides on a MTB. When/If you do decide to take the plunge on a roadie, talk to the bike shop you buy it at and they'll most likely have a shop ride for beginners you'd be welcome on.
