Perhaps it was away on (legitimate undeclared) business related travel?Sinner wrote:Approval from the City of Perth is a long time coming.....

Title of this topic is not 100% correct, as copied from the above link 'William Street (between Murray and Hay streets only) will become an exclusive pedestrian/cycle/bus/taxi zone'. Even though PTA also calls it 'William St Bus Only Lane'.

7.4.1 William Street between Wellington Street and St Georges Terrace is currently a high density corridor for the bus network, and will continue to grow, serving as a link between the new underground bus station and Elizabeth Quay Busport as well as a central bus hub for Perth centre. A Transit Zone including access for taxis and cyclists is proposed for William Street between Hay Street and Murray Street, which will see this central section of William Street devoid of general traffic, providing a reliable bus journey along this important central city corridor.
But given that the original 2015/16 completion date has lapsed, and the above does not provide a date, unknown when this will now occur.

If it's in that plan then it's been consigned to the "after we're long gone" bucket.rolandp wrote:William St was again mentioned in the Public Transport section of the 2016 Transport Plan

This is your chance to help shape the future direction of our capital city.
City of Perth is developing a new Strategic Community Plan that will drive the development of our capital city over the next 10 years.

You seem to be correct: from the PTA William Street bus-only lane project page.Sinner wrote:Agreed project? That's the problem with William Street - it's never been agreed.
I guess the Mayor is a little distracted right now.PTA wrote: Stage 3 - 2015-16
The PTA is in discussions with the City of Perth regarding Stage 3 of William Street bus-only lanes. Stage 3 would see William Street (between Murray and Hay streets only) become an exclusive pedestrian/cycle/bus/taxi zone. General traffic would not be able to enter this section of the street.

Given that there are three stages to the project, of which Stage 1 and 2 are complete, there would have been an agreed project plan. Just because it is not finished and there are now additional discussions on the scope of work for stage 3, unfortunately can occur.Sinner wrote:Agreed project? That's the problem with William Street - it's never been agreed.
Does not change the fact that the latest information we have is dates back to July 2015 found on William St bus only fact sheet.
I did find a correspondence with PTA dating back to Aug-2016
. At this stage no timeframes have been set for Stage 3 of the William Street bus-only works. The PTA continues to have discussions with the City of Perth regarding the final stage of the transit mall.

The councillors ignored the recommendation and deferred their decision, "to allow further information to be provided around the cost benefits that this proposal will bring to the City and the impacts that the City will encounter as a result of this proposal."
The deferral appears to be on-going, with (as far as my Google Fu can find) no further consideration of the project minuted by council.

Done. I'm not a resident, but that shouldn't stop others as we all work/visit the Perth district.wellington_street wrote:Any CoP residents on here? If yes, I'd suggest dropping a line to your Councillor and asking them to follow up
I also followed up with PTA, who indicated:
.We are currently following up your query with the project team and will get back to you before the end of the week

The West ran an article today Road rule to put cars last in Perth CBD - https://thewest.com.au/news/perth/road- ... 881177682z
Maybe William St will finally change. The City of Perth is expected tonight to approve a change that would force motorists to “yield” to pedestrians in a 20km/h zone on Hay Street in the block between Pier and Irwin streets.
Main Roads WA confirmed the shared pedestrian zone — the first of its kind in the CBD and part of a broader $4 million public plaza project — would change the road hierarchy.
A MRWA spokeswoman said “shared pedestrian zones” were already included in the road traffic code but legislation would need to be amended to reflect the proposed speed limit change.
