Important information for cyclists

As part of the East Perth Station Upgrade, the existing pedestrian footbridge above the tracks will permanently close from the evening of Thursday 21 September.

The new concourse will open after the Midland Line Shutdown, from first service on Tuesday 26 September.

Temporary ramps will be in place to provide access to and from the platform and the west side of the station (Public Transport Centre side).
The East Parade entrance will only be accessible via stairs.
Once the concourse is complete and lifts are installed, cyclists wishing to cross the tracks at the station will need to dismount and use the lifts to access the concourse and cross the tracks. Alternatively, cyclists can cross the tracks at the Lord Street underpass or the Graham Farmer freeway pathways.

Unless you like carrying your bike up and down stairs it will remain challenging until the lifts are installed and commissioned (sometime later this year) as there will be no temporary ramp on the East Parade (Midland line PSP) side of the railway and the alternatives routes are not cyclist friendly.

As per a previous thread some caution around the area will be needed judging by the amount of stuff being stockpiled in the carpark. There will be ongoing deliveries as well - hopefully traffic management and some cleaning of the PSP during & after.
Hopefully the lifts are a bit more reliable than those they installed at Bassendean Station when they took away the ramps & replaced with stairs. Fairly regular breakdowns leaves my kids no option than to lug their bikes up the steps on the way to school (as the overpass is the only controlled crossing on Guildford Rd). Not sure what they do with wheelchair bound folk!

East Perth Station's bike shelter is now open

The new bike shelter at East Perth Station is located next to the station's East Parade entrance.

The bike shelter has 24 spaces available for Transperth passengers to store their bikes before they catch the train at the recently upgraded East Perth Station.

I'm curious to see what it has to say about the ability to cross rail lines with a bike.
What a narrowminded act to permanently take away the ramp. Perth is only just now seeing the benefit of allowing easy access from CBD to Northbridge.

It is one of the unfortunate and numerous downsides of shared pedestrian and cycling infrastructure and the application of the Disability Discrimination Act. If new infrastructure is provided for pedestrians it is required to be suitable for wheelchairs and the disabled which sets strict limits on the maximum slope of the ramps and requires the provision of flat "rest points" if the slope is above a certain level, leading to the familiar slope-flat-slope-flat profile on recently constructed PSPs which often results in dramatic price increases compared to what would be required for a bicycle only path.

Due to the need to clear the electrical overhead wires and meet the DDA requirements every new ramp over the railway ends up being of the same scale as the Claisebrook ramps and unfortunately the cost and space requirements are too high to justify providing ramps except where absolutely necessary.

The solution needs to be driven from the State Government level adopting a policy of universal bicycle access the same way the DDA requires universal disabled access.

The Subi station solution works and would seem appropriate at East Perth. Sink the station.
