heading east

Postby jaythefordman » Mon Jul 30, 2018 8:29 pm

I live in the western suburbs and getting a bit tired of riding up and down the coast. Thinking of heading east, swan valley (brewery stop ;) , maybe even into the hills. Anyone got any good routes to suggest? Complete newb going through east.

Head up past Brigadoon. Do a clockwise loop heading north along O'Brien Road. When you wind back to Tooday Road, there's a few roads on the southern side. Make your way back west.

If you feel like some suffering heading east into the hills then Weir Road is much more fun than Campersic

Well worth a hills ride this time of year.

 Weir road after a brewery stop.

PSP east from Perth to Midland would be best route to foothills then as suggested head North to Campersic or East up through Darlington or south east to Kalamunda. If you haven't done many hill rides would recommend maybe driving to Kalamunda and then doing a loop ride out through Pickering brook or return ride to Canning Dam. There are some great rides but if low fitness/hills riding you will be stuffed by the time you get out and up the first hill.

You mean the PSP that runs along the trainline? Sounds like an idea.

Yeah, OK, keep thinking about doing that. Probably better as my hills fitness needs work :/

Yep PSP to Morrison Road in mIdland. Turn left will take you to Swan Vally/Toodyay Rd/Campersic etc Or turn right and few left and rights (check maps) up through Clayton St to Scott street......follow maps.... to Thomas Rd in Glen Forrest will take you to Mundaring then Mundaring road back to Kalamunda etc etc Or from Scott street head south to Ridge hill road/Watsonia then up Kalamunda Hill to Kalamunda.
Weir Road gets the heart pumping  Up Zamia and Lenori Rds in Gooseberry Hill for a few hill repeats if your feeling strong as well

You could even make your way along the northern side of the rail trail with something like a 28mm tyre this time of year. As mentioned, the PSP along the rail line will get you much of the way there. Pub/shop stop along the trail.
