Do a few short extended tours with your setup and gear this will give you a starting point of your true needs and from that start asking questions. My touring habits and gear selection is just that mine rearly can be used by someone else. Be prepared to waste money on gear you purchased and hate because it doesnt fit your requirements/needs. Doing short extended shake down tour will answer many of you unknow questions then you will be able to ask more targeted questions due to experience and first hand knowledge.

If you do consider the Kimberley, here's one source of info .

location of Remoterider
Remoterider ... you might need to give some idea of your experience e.g A German who has cycled through north Africa. An Australian who has cycled in the local Darwin area, but not yet done multi day tours.

I'd be thinking of leaving the Kimberleys quite soon. When I biked down the West Coast I went through Kununurra in the first week of September, Broome in early October and Karratha halfway through October.remoterider wrote:Some time in the near future I was looking about touring around Australia leaving the kimberleys WA
The weather was starting to get fierce, plenty of 38ºC+ days, I think I had a couple over 40ºC near Newman where I sat under a tree on my picnic rug for a siesta at lunchtime until the ants finally made me move.
Actually I dealt OK with the heat, it was those afternoon thunderstorms that scared me, no shelter with lightning flashing all around. They were pretty common by November, a daily event, but seldom with any rain.
Broome to Port Hedland is a tough run, after you leave the Roebuck Plains roadhouse at the junction it is a big 286 km to the Sandfire Roadhouse, skirting the edge of the Great Sandy Desert, with no houses, shops, or anything much along the way. No water except what you carry or can scrounge from the caravan people.
My blog starts in Kununurra here: http://www.cycletrailsaustralia.com/7b- ... -kununurra
The Great Northern Highway is probably better than the Coastal Highway, a great road, not much traffic, certainly many fewer caravans.
Karajini is worth a look.

Karijini is more than worth a look! Just come through there on a rideshare down to Perth, and it was epic
