Launceston to Hobard with Children in Jan

We are thinking of doing this trip with kids (girls, 10 and 5).

The main concern is the traffic, how bad is it there? The company says it is possible to skip the busier sections in the support bus but our previous experience of touring is on dedicated paths, mostly, and the worry is that it will be stressful with kids if the motorists are hooning by.

Would be good to hear from people who know those roads and the traffic, especially in the second half of January.

Also, let us know if you want to join, the group can be up to 12 and the kids would love the extra company, especially of other kids.

haven't ridden any, just driven... not too heavily trafficked, but that time of year, loads of tourists and a few yokles... but that route, it may redefine your definition of hills

The roads are good...ut it is all 100-110km zones with only a small amout of verge

Also while peope ay the Tassie is cold... it can be hot and thats the middle of summer, so pack large buckets of sunscreen (that lack of ozone layer)

The bit through from Lonnie to Scotsdale would be scary... the rest OK mostly. But hilly as hell up and over the Sideling, reckon the kids would be in the bus a bit. Mostly it'll be hot on the east coast. You won't need to pack for cold weather(snow) like the rest of the state.

Geez that's a massive ride for a 5yo. There's some big hills between Launceston and St Helens. Sideling, Derby, Weldbrough Pass...guess you have the support vehicle available.

I rode Launceston to Swansea a few years back and for the most part the low amount of traffic was courteous - but there's always a few bogans.

The terrain is fairly flat down the East Coast with a couple of exceptions, but the wind can be a killer. (As it was with us - we bailed at Swansea because of it.)
