'frame was repaired' pretty much rules anything out for me, unless I can visually check the repair and deem it non life threatening. On top of that, I have a funny gut feeling about vintage Aluminium, and it is more difficult to repair than steel - more chance that the repair will fail. I've ridden steel bikes with home made dropouts, bent forks, and fat dents with no incident, but alu is a whole different can of wormsQuangVuong wrote:Looks nice, but is it any good?

Can't fault the pics. fleabay score of 100% (out of 4) Now if only it had DT shifters, I'd go for it. :tongueincheek:

Anything pre disc brakes is retro enough for me. Damn young wipper snapper I am .singlespeedscott wrote:Retro mtb for me is pre 1991. Rigid forks, thumb shifters and cantilevers, U or roller cam brakes. Definitely no suspension, trigger shifters, v brakes or discs.

front valve too long, magnet left on front wheel spoke, discriminates against German buyers: "For buyers from Germany: bank transfer and picking up preferred!"frailer5 wrote:Anyone up for a high risk purchase?

and it only was sold on 15 April for US $1,699.00 see http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/251254736465 ... 655wt_1202" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I have let the German seller know of the China listing.

But there is more, he has a De Rosa frameHi Philip,
Thank you for this information. It's not only my images, it is also my description. What a surprise!
An unbelievable try of fraud, I think.
Cheers,
Tobias
and if you cut and paste the description, it is identical to this one, which is another Chinese e bayer!
for the Giant frame he has, again cut and paste description and do a search and you get.... the bike listed on Craiglist in Bloomington, Indiana.
love his stupidity, and those that are bidding

It took until the 90's for most roadies to realise what tourists and randonneur riders had known for 60 years. Vertical dropouts hold a wheel better and make for faster wheel changes.
But looking at the wheel clearances and lack of braze-on's I would say its a road frame.

Check the "made by" sticker near the BB.Looks a lot like the "Shimano" variant Ricardo that singlespeedscott just acquired.

Not only that - an ultra rare cross-cultural marriage of Tange & Columbus tubing! Everybody sing "Hey Mumbo.. Nippo-Italiano!"funnybike wrote:Wow! A real Colnago, manufactured by Leisure Cycles. Who would have guessed that Ricardo's and Colnago's came out of the same factory in Adelaide?
Those old funky tri-bars always make me smile. I've kept a pair in my collection just for the comic value. They must've been pricey enough in their day. My bars are Nitto with "Scott" embossed padding.
Hit me up via the BNA dm; I'll get an alert. If y'know, you know.

Actually I have a French manufactured Peugeot "Kings Canyon" MTB from the early 90's that uses Reynolds 531 tubing for the frame and a Tange Cr-Mo for the fork. So such a thing is not entirely inconceivable. Just not in this case though.HappyHumber wrote:Not only that - an ultra rare cross-cultural marriage of Tange & Columbus tubing! Everybody sing "

Is the price right for this? I'm pretty interested since 48cm would probably be in my ballpark (around 166cm and 74cm inseam)

I'd say it looks like a reasonable offering. What would you pay for a new touring/commuting bike of this standard - a fair bit more. Half decent parts, integrated shifters, the paint in decent condition, and if it's your size and would suit your purpose, go for it.quislor wrote:Is the price right for this? To me it seems the frame is the only 3 Star part of the deal. Is it a track frame or a road bike? Nice lugs though. The headtube lugs on my 3 star aren't as ornate.

Correct in that I'd treat it as pretty much a frame only purchase, the BSA crank is one of the lower models, and apart from the nice Bell saddle, the other bits should be relocated onto another bike if wanting to make it more 'original'. Frame looks like a 'semi racer' style. Having seen yours with the osgear ends and parts you have collected, I know which one I'd ratherTasman wrote:Am I missing something here?

Interesting to see what price it gets.
